Civil Libertarianism is defined as "a strain of political thought that supports civil liberties, or which emphasizes the supremacy of individual rights and personal freedoms over and against any kind of authority".
To put it in layman's terms, civil libertarians do not (necessarily) care what you do in the privacy of your own home or speak your opinions:
If you masturbate to hentai on Fakku.net, fine, whatever.
If you think Fakku.net is shit, fine, whatever.
If you want to kill someone because they use Fakku.net, then we have a problem.
The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is arguably the most famous civil libertarian organization in the U.S.

That layman's term is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too simple.
But, in many regards I am a classic liberal, or a libertarian. Or at least a centrist with libertarian leanings.
