Getting along

My family all fight over politics. They both think the other side eats babies so to speak. So they never talk sensibly to each other. And it bleeds into every interaction they have. Kinda sucks, as they are all good people. Well....... Almost all.
Anyway, so I was thinking. I have come to the decision that if someone cannot talk politics without getting mad, I wish they would not vote. They could be the smartest person in the world, but reason shuts down in moments of anger. And besides, even if you had a good point, you can't logically discuss it mad. (Some of my family think they can. I wish they could hear themselves from the outside.) Honestly everyone should be able to talk about what they want their government to do without coming under attack, because even if its bad people should still discuss it, maybe with good discussions things could go smoother.
Sorry just my way of letting go of some frustration built up by everyone I love fighting around me.

Damn that sucks the people in my family never talk about politics (at least to me or around me)and I currently have no intention of voting as I feel don't have the time or desire to do the research required to make an informed decision.

Politics became a joke when the two-party system was created -- like who in their right mind would think that was an infallible idea? Divisiveness was always inevitable. It's not like there are only two valid opinions for any given question. That's like if I asked you what Doujin Artist you liked and expected you to say either NaPaTa or Asanagi, and ignoring you if you say someone else lol.

Yeah politics have really become part of the main stream culture now a days, to the point where you cant even go to the grocery store without seeing some political sign or advertisement. Hell even on YouTube there's always political videos on the front page and advertisement on videos that have nothing to do with politics. I remember 10 years ago where it seam like no one really cared about it. (Granite I was still a kid back then). But the way I see it is that both sides have valid points of view and concerns, and that both sides do deserve to be heard. Its tough playing the middle man in these arguments but if your able to keep things calm and actually let them talk and hear each other out, I think things would get a lot better. Thats what I try to do with my family anyway.

Sad, but true. I'm very disappointed in the Democratic AND the Republican parties- after supporting Obama in the 2008 and 2012 elections, I voted for the Green Party in 2016 and 2020, because I hated BOTH SIDES' candidates.
The polarization has NOT helped, nor has the hypocrisy- by the latter, I mean the Democrats and the Republicans BOTH do the same damn thing they denounced the other side for doing, when the other side was in power, e.g., the Democrats denouncing Republican President George W. Bush's decision to go to war with Iraq, and yet having the US go to war with Syria, while SIMULTANEOUSLY preparing for war with China and Russia. (I hate that racist cunt Trump, but I still respect his decision to refrain from going to war with Iran.)
Do you think I'm a white supremacist for criticizing the Democrats? Well, I'm Chinese-American, and after Democratic Party supporters FALSELY accused me of being a white supremacist for not giving their candidate 100%, I now have ZERO motivation to do so. (I still won't support the Republican Party. I haven't forgotten what Trump allowed to happen under his watch.)
Hope a viable third party can rise, forcing the Democrats AND the Republicans to stop acting like cunts, even if only because "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Yeah, I remember Benghazi and the US being the main force in overthrowing Kaddafi in Libya. I was like, "Waitaminute. I thought we were supposed to get out of 2 needless wars and not start new needless military engagements?" We ended up not doing that and it created more instability in the Middle East. As for you being tagged a white supremacist for criticizing the Democratic party, well, your take just tells me you're more than likely an economic moderate, maybe even a social moderate depending on the issue. The problem is society thru mainstream and social media tells everyone that either a person is on the extreme of one side or the other - no middle ground, no gray area.

I feel that. I used to be that one asshole who got a little too heated about politics in my circle of friends and family. Y'know, one of those jerks who claimed they understood both sides but also picked their side as the hill to die on. What can I say, I used to be a teenager lmao.
Now I just straight up ignore politics unless there is an imminent election. It's a lot easier to respect people based on their merits when you aren't constantly being bombarded by political bullshit. The people who get all pissed off over politics really need to sit down for a second and ask themselves, "is this worth my time whatsoever?".

It's just so hard to have civil discussions about it now. I remember a time when it was a little more okay to disagree about things, now there are more people out for blood if someone disagrees with them so now I'm finding I'm being extra careful about what I say and who I say it to. It's sad and a little scary because it doesn't make for a healthy society IMO.
