Its going to take a common enemy to get the entire world to collectively work together. Like an alien invasion or Skynet level event
Or you could simply scapegoat a particular group or perhaps a good half or chunk of the world and destroy them and whoevers left would be united.
But seriously, free thought and expression is the absolute enemy of unity.Unless such things can be held into place by an equivalent power, the only thing to do with any thought of unity is to discard it in the flames of everlasting war and bloodshed.Humanity will never unite as individuality is a common resource that allows our existence and to pull up to play simple free rationality with the equal expression example, if all of humanity wished something and one person had a logical reason to oppose that wish, it would be wrong. In summary, cast enough of the world in the shadow of complete utilitarianism or blaze alight within the fires of the ever hungry social furnace.
Edit:you mentioned resources and problems currently in world being enough?
Meh empirics prove they don't matter, not only have they not destroyed us before but it's proven humanity is indifferent towards such feeble problems. No matter how much stress you put on death, anxiety is meant to be a great survival instinct, it has no impact or magnitude. What you can do is threaten people, direct application is the only solution. How you may do that is up to you, whether it be warmongering, brutality, enhancing public sociopacy, etc.Really and to get back to point for this issue alone, resources are not an issue, human greed is.We have enough resources to sustain the world if they weren't diverted or choked(whether it be the new renewable oil sources caused by non biological mass being incinerated by techtonic movements or water, which often is the point of the controversial "water wars" we have it, but without personal gain, what use is it to share it?)
