I figured someone here would at least know about a philosophy or religion that was close. After my failure to get the girl and the overall downward spiral my life has underwent the last...oh six-seven years. It hasn't been a plummeting death spiral but, still pretty shitty. Anyways, I figured that I would at least see if there was anything existing that is similar.
There are philosophies that touch on similar notions, but I'm not too sure if any really take a concept such as that as the core belief. I mean I could be wrong. I'd say you'd get a good start by looking into postmodernism and other philosophies and movements related to people's dissatisfaction with the state of the world.
What I'd recommend for you to do is just collect your ideas and take it from there. You can probably find philosophies similar to what you believe, but subscribing to one set of beliefs is a bit one-dimensional for my taste. In all honesty, I could be content to subscribe to Stoicism. The problem with that is that its such an old theory that there are conflicts with a lot of the matters that have arisen out of the rapid advancement of society and development of new ideologies. I've just been piecing my own beliefs together as I go. If there's something I read that I can adapt to my personal philosophy, that's what I do, but I could never consider myself belonging to one specific group of beliefs.
I'm too lazy to piece my whole philosophy together since I would have to explain it every time I met someone. I just just say "My beliefs are similar to (insert name here) but, with a few differences on some things".
I get where you're coming from, but there's a simple resolution to that problem. Believing in anything is just like love. You don't love someone for the sake of loving them, just as you don't believe for the sake of having that belief. You do so because that is what you, it doesn't matter who criticizes or whatever, know it is true. When you know deep inside that you're beliefs are truthful, even if people expect a more lengthy explanation as to why, you could give the most half-assed explanation. Your own personal truth is exactly that,
your own. The only rationalization, justification, or explanation that matters is the one that leads you, and only you, to be able to accept that as truth.
That's what's beautiful about being human. We celebrate our logic and ability to think freely for all the wrong reasons. The most rewarding thing about what we, as humans, possess that sets us apart from all other species, is our ability to search for the truth. Its disheartening at times, because truth is as dynamic as the reality we live in. Its in constant flux and as the world changes and grows and as we, as individuals grow, we find new truths or, at the very least, things that we can adapt to our own personal truths.
What you accept lives and what you falsify dies. One only grows by maintaining the integrity of what they learn and adding on as they experience new things. One who merely imitates the teachings of another never grows.
This is a perfect example of what the truth to an individual is. I took this quote from an anime a very long time ago. While I still have the direct quote, I copied it and as I've been growing and learning, I've modified it, and that is what you see now. If I were to post the original quote or even let you know where I took it from you could find meaning in it, but that wouldn't exactly serve my point. If you want a hint, it was directed at studying martial arts and becoming the strongest fighter possible. The point is that when I heard it, I was immediately able to adapt it to my path in life. One aspires to grow through personal experience. That growth is reflected in their expression of their beliefs. If you are confident in what you believe, that is all the justification you need.
Son of a bitch, I keep going on these long fucking rants... lol.
