So fairly recently Hillary Clinton signed a resolution in the UN called Resolution 16/18. As it's a UN resolution, it's about as legally binding as the UN saying, "We agree that Blue is the best color."
However, there's a scare campaign going on by the bigots across the internet that this is killing United States' rights to free speech. This is of course supported by stupid people in our own government like Michelle Bachmann:

Onto the scare campaign that's been going on, we can look at freedomrings, which was linked by sodahead:

^ This blog for instance seems to be exclaiming that this is a major attack on free speech.
Oh, and it quotes Obama at the end supposedly trying to denigrate those who denigrate "The prophet of Islam." Conveniently leaving out the sentence after that. Here's the whole quote in context, clearly displaying he's advocating for equality of all religions:
The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. But to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see in the images of Jesus Christ that are desecrated, or churches that are destroyed, or the Holocaust that is denied.
Let us condemn incitement against Sufi Muslims and Shiite pilgrims. It’s time to heed the words of Gandhi: “Intolerance is itself a form of violence and an obstacle to the growth of a true democratic spirit.” Together, we must work towards a world where we are strengthened by our differences, and not defined by them. That is what America embodies, that’s the vision we will support.
Or, if you go to a place like...Counter Jihad Report...

They pretty much say the same thing...and use the same quote mine of Obama to make him sound like he's going all, "Islam good! Bow down to the prophet muhammed!"
They also quote the OIC making a statement that is their own independent mission statement, not found anywhere within 16/18...kind of misleading if you ask me.
So what IS 16/18 say? Well here's the whole report: http://www.humanrights.gov/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/1618FirstMeetingReport.pdf
If you do a word search for Islam here, you'll see that the most that's being proposed as far as Islam is concerned is that law enforcement personnel be a little more fair to muslims.
You can go ahead and do a word search for Islam, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, and many other religions here, and you'll find that, within context, every single thing discussed in 16/18 is about...equality of religions. Not preference, and no laws to be enacted to stop 'hate speech'.
So, do not fear, you can draw Muhammed with a bomb on their head all you want in the U.S., and still will be able to even if this passes in the UN. Not only does 16/18 not do anything legally, as it's not in any way legally binding, but the resolution itself says nothing whatsoever about binding anyone's right to free speech.
So if you hear anyone talking about how Resolution 16/18 is "THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF FREE SPEECH!!!!11!!" you can laugh at whoever said it, and ignore them.
Unless of course someone here has a problem with the resolution and thinks it IS some sort of conspiracy to limit free speech in america...go for it. I'm waiting.
