You know what? In Bible, the mention on monogamy is only advise based and not command, it's applied to church leaders. Now, I don't much mind polygamy, but then again I don't really care about marriage. If my wife wanted to have another husband though, that'd be a problem. Call me a hypocrite.

The reason it was allowed is because it was practical. Back then there were more women then men on account of men getting themselves killed in wars and working themselves to death. So instead of leaving a women to fend for herself, she could marry her sister's husband or another friends husband, as a way to provide for herself and have kids.
They still do it in some cultures today for the same reasons.

It is just another example of letting cultural or moral beliefs get in the way of the legal system. I have nothing against polygamy; if the parties involved love each other and can better take care of children involved with that kind of relationship then they should feel free. The only reason I can see the government caring is taxes, but they could certainly work something out without having to make polygamy illegal in its entirety.

It'd make a hell of a lot of problems for young women being coerced into marriages.

Well it is the government's responsiblity to protect them. A 17 or 16 year old girl that is told that on her 18th birthday she's going to marry her sister's husband or else, needs help and intervention. It is already a growing problem in america, espicially with crazy morman cults.

Q1 Polygamy is fine as long as the people involved know and are fine with it. For instances if a man has a wife and wants another he must ask his wife and she must approve and tell the future wife he has a wife and if she’s fine with it then they should be allowed to get married. I’m also fine with polyandry in the same manner.

Q2 Well its simple change in ideals the “good book” can be interrupted in anyway someone wants, so someone declared it was wrong (probably a pope) and so started the interpretation that it was bad, and that god didn’t approve.

I myself have nothing against polygamy. If three or more adults decide to marry together through there own free will i have no problem with it.

But it always seems to be 1 dude having multiple wives(who are usually younger than him). If your going to allow polygamy, then the right to marry multiple partners should apply to both genders.

But it wont cause no guy is going to let his wife fuck another dude. Just the nature of the beast.

And polygamy is kinda allowed in the bible, similar to divorce. It is okay, but frowned upon and comes with guidelines.

That's definitely a real bias, but it's by no means absolute. There was an episode of Penn & Teller Bullshit that discussed marriage- they did a focus on one particular married couple both partners had lovers on the side and they were totally cool with it.

I think there are a lot of guys who would be willing to share a woman if they are convinced that the new guy will be kind and loving to her, and that the new guy will not terribly diminish access to the wife. Most guys are inherantly jealous, so it's a tall order, but not inconceivable.

Nothing is ever absolute, I know. And there is ALWAYS the exception. But for the most part polygamy wouldn't be even remotely common for a 1 women with x number of guys. Guys aren't wired that way. It only happen for a REALLY REALLY REALLY desperat guy that wanted a wife.

Of course I'm sure that even today in even first-world countries that there is some girl living and wed to a couple of guys.

Well, men are definitely more resistant to the idea of sharing a spouse than women.

Women are coded to seek out the most superior DNA from a partner, whereas men are coded to seek out the most partners. But there are ideas of companionship and family that can extend beyond these baseline feelings.

Imagine a society has polygamy rampant enough that there is a discernable lack of available women. I think that there would be a lot of couples willing to take on a younger brother type husband- especially if there is already a child or two produced by the couple. I think there would be a lot of guys who lost their first love to a guy who already had wives and would feel sympathetic to a close unmarried friend. I doubt would be enough to offset the imbalance entirely- but I doubt it would be uncommon either. This also assumes somehow this society evolves without some moral prohibition against it.

That scenerio aside if group marriages were somehow permissible, I suspect the necessity for 1 to 1 gender pairing would be substantially lessened. If two women are sharing 3 guys, the three guys are a lot more likely to permit a fourth guy- much moreso than one guy allowing a second husband to his one wife.

When would a guy ever feel sorry enough for another guy that he'd give him his wife or even girlfriend? The only instance I can see a group marriage is when an eligible male or female lack the social skills necessary to filfull the role of husband or wife, is then taken in by another couple. This happens in some primative tribes still, but the newly introduced partner wil more often then not eventually moves on to their own spouse, maybe repeating the act when they are older.

Love triangles are real occurrences and they can happen in both directions. If polygamy weren't taboo I don't think it'd be unheard of for a woman to choose "both". Two guys could probably agree to share turf if approaching it at the same, but you're right that essentially no guy would permit someone from butting in on an established relationship.

Ultimately, I'm not so much trying to argue with you as I am trying to imagine situations it could happen. I found the marriage schemes described in "The moon is a harsh mistress" very intriguing, given a world where women were in the minority by like 4:1 and there was little preexisting moral code. (the moon was life-sentenced penal colony)

So I think given extreme situations, it is likely, but then again, such extreme situations don't exactly apply to present conversation. I'd probably just go gay though... I fap hard enough to futanari as is...

Heh, so there's less chance a wife will woman on top to a random lowlife screaming. So if I'm feeling monogamist to a girl that means, it's just probably due to media.
Currently, all women I know only likes to be the only one. So real harem are for psychopath playboys and money men.
