[Locked] Spell checking and other annoyances

Alright, so what's the deal with spellchecking?

Do I really have to go through the ordeal of checking wether or not something ought to be written with capital letters? Especially since we are talking english here, a language that relies on capital letters only for emphasis and the beginning of sentences (and some other odd ends, like proper names and I).

It's not as if my posts were unintelligeble before, which I somewhat suppose is the whole reason for this arbitrary rule (or was there some vote about it I just happened to miss? It's entirely possible though, I haven't been here for a while)

There isn't some kind of spellcheck conspiracy bra.


No one's forcing you, you know. It's a suggestion for writing proper english.

I don't know about other browsers, but Firefox has a built-in spell checker. Can't get more simple.

As for capitalization, it's not that big a deal. Capitalize the first letter of your sentence; not hard at all. Why is it done? I don't know, but it may make it easier to tell that it's a new sentence. Yeah, the period should do that, but whatever. Some capitalized letters look better than a whole bunch of lower-case letters.

Is it so hard to do? I mean you had to write intelligently in school, is is it really so hard to carry that over into everyday life? I've always at least attempted to use proper spelling and grammar when typing. Granted I'm not a grammar nazi, and I make quite a few mistakes (I'm horrible with then/than usage for some reason and I have the worst case of comma splicing EVAR!)

Same. It's not really an annoyance for me. I guess I didn't really notice.

Haha, though it's true that you spelled it wrong, I'm only kidding with you about those previous statements I made. Anyway, I get what you're saying in your message. It probably sucks when people are constantly on your back about the way you spell. Anyway, I don't think you're going to be banned or permanently banned for making a post that has an error or two. However, it is kind of nice when people type in a way that can be understood.

What would Fakku's forums be like if everyone typed like lollollol12 or FreeNadia do?

One things for sure, it wouldn't be that easy to understand what people mean.

But again, you're not going to be banned or anything if you make a few errors. I'm almost sure of that. Those rules were probably put in place so that people's posts aren't so hard to understand and make sense.

If your using firefox, spell check isn't really a problem. Even so, it's really not that hard to type proper English. I can understand if your lazy and want to make abbreviations (I.E. people = ppl) but I would use those for things like MSN or AIM. In the forums your not really in a hurry to type up a response so personally I rather write up something properly.

Is this really SD? I'm not entirely convinced it is, but I haven't reported this thread yet. And honestly, typing correctly is something that shouldn't be an inconvenience.

Well I suppose that it can be this is the internet after all. I mean asking for proper grammar and spelling isn’t much, but is it not a form of censorship? Is forcing someone to write in a manner of your choosing not censorship. We’re not talking about an English paper or some article in the new York times this is an internet forum should we not be able to type in all CAPS is we choose?

While it’s fine to ask people to use spell check and proper grammar, but to force it I don’t know censorship or not? In the end what if your grammar sucks (mine dose) is it fine for Mod’s/ Admid’s to delete or ban users for not being good at English isn’t that discrimination. Really though is this that big of a problem to copy paste from word or what not, I mean come on.

Any place must have rules, and a place devoted to communication ("forum") must enact rules that guarantee a minimum of understanding to be possible. Otherwise, no communication. And stipulating that people make intelligible posts is just that: Making sure communication is at all possible.

Plus, you can think of it as a guideline for forum writing.

You'd also think that I was less intelligent than I am, thus is the beauty of proper grammar and correct spelling.

These rules aren't followed up by any process, but are simply guidelines. However, I'd recommend that to be taken seriously you need to post properly. Topic locked since it's useless to pursue any further with the same opinions　after the question has been answered.
