The future of technology.

After reading it, and seeing some of the valid points it brings up, I'm worried about what the world will be like when we do reach some of those later times.

This is ONLY video games, too. Imagine how advanced everything else will be at that point.

Do you think technology can advance that fast? Do you think people will want it to advance that much? With the laziness people have today, it wouldn't be very surprising if they do.

So yeah, your thoughts on this article would be awesome. And moving to Random would be awesome, also, if it isn't good enough to be here.

That's actually kind of terrifying. Our technology completely has the ability to advance that far in 25 years, based off current trends. I mean, compare something that came out back in '85 to something like Black Ops. They're a far cry away from each other.
And hell yeah people are gonna wanna advance technology that far. At the very least it would be looked at as progress for the sake of progress until we can all load ourselves into computers. At that point the human race will, in my opinion, cease to exist. We'll kill ourselves with our technology, just not in the way most people would think.

The only reason our technology has advanced at such a phenomenal rate this past century was because of war. IMO, we're a long long away from world war 3.

Life wasn't made for worry. What happens will happen. look at right now even. We've only had the internet how long? And In just that short time we have already learnt how to download our favourite animated porn of the internet for free, download hundreds of songs and movies and store it all on this thing called an external hard drive. Japan has already made a 5 foot 6 human based robot that can do back flips!!! If all that can happen in such a short amount of time, imagine 25 years from now. The better the technology, the more new technology can be created. Its like robotic evolution.

We've made some pretty amazing advancements in graphical technology since the turn of the century. And what about the Large Hadron Collider? You wouldn't consider that massively funded project a big advancement for physics? Science will always be among Humanity's top priorities, the people your country owes it's debt to will always pour funding into it. Technology will continue to advance at the same phenomenal rate it has been for a good 200 years.

I think it will, maybe not in 25 or even 35 years, but we will eventually get to the point where we will have virtual reality.

The most important thing are not the technology itself but the information of the technology. It wasn't if but when will the end of human race will came in this case technology are useless, there will be a survivor there will be but when everything have calm down what would happen to the technology? it will be forgotten unless we do something about it.
such as the mesapotamia civilization era there many kind of technology that we where using today have been already been put to use by them at that time. But when the event happen (where the era of the mesapotamia died out) nuch of the technology where forgotten. So what i'm trying to say is the most important was not the technology but the reproduction of a technology when an event happen.

example:year 2065 meteor hit earth most 95% of the land are incapable to have an habitat to live. human have already reach the level point of extinction due to the last known technology human can live if they can reproduce the technology they needed such as weapon for hunting, house to built and the right way to farming but due to the misunderstanding back when before the impact of the meteor most of the information where sealed or burned of to prevent the so called Terrorist from reaching their hand on it... the result human will die unless they have the right information on how to live and the right information on how to restore technology.

Of course the technology is going to change, so what now? Nothing new, is it? And computer games are the worst reference for this.

And that technology is only driven by war is TOTAL BULLSHIT. Yes, the Internet was a product of the US military, BUT only because THE MILITARY WAS BY FAR THE LARGEST COMPANY! Now actually almost all of the advancements come from private companies, not the military. Free enterprise is the basis of our current technological development.

Whether that article was 100% accurate or not (hint: it wasn't), there's still some hugely awesome technology coming our way, and I can't think of a better time to be alive.

One should be cautious about predicting the future. What people almost always (if not just always) do is take the current trend and extrapolate on it like a motherfuck. You just look at what you have now and expand that into something more crazy and high tech. How long has human kind been begging for the invention of a jet pack now? Another thing to keep in mind is that physics limits how far we can go with technology. The main thing(s) keeping us from making a jet pack is the means of propulsion and/or (I'm not sure if it's both or one of either of them) how to supply that means of propulsion with energy that will sustain flight. (My knowledge could be out of date, fuck if I know) Then there's also the limit to the processing speed of computers.



It's best to not talk about technology as a whole since some things will advance faster than others. Things could advance that quickly, but I wouldn't waste my time trying to predict what it'll be like. I do hope that I'll be able to see virtual reality within my lifetime; gamer fo' life



Who cares? Leave the old generation with their iPods and consoles and welcome the new generation with virtual reality porn and toasters that shave your nuts.

Edit: fuck it, wikipedia says that a 9 minute flight jet pack exists.

I have to disagree. Trends develop faster than anything else because that's where both the money and the attention are. In 2000 you could f.e. have predicted that we will have more bandwidth on your Internet connections, higher resolution TVs, better Graphics in gaming, lower emission cars, Smartphones and what not. Entertainment, communication and transport will always develop most rapidly. The Web f.e. has taken huge steps, while robotics on the other has hardly moved.

Hardly anyone can takes steps beyond the trends, because something that is not immediately applicable is not fundable.

Those in the science fields are the furthest thing from lazy on the planet. They love what they do, they love learning, and they will continue to push the boundaries of physics.

Technology is moving at an incredible rate. You need to only compare the size of a bit in the 1980s to what it is now. The size fell two orders of magnitude in a ten-year span (floppy disk to cd-rom) and fell yet another magnitude several years later (cd-rom to ultraviolet light disk). This is nothing short of an incredible pace.

I'm an aerospace undergrad, so I'll say a bit on the future of that. All aircraft in general are being made with the intent to fly them unmanned. The Lockheed F-35 is being treated as the last of the manned fighters. Unmanned commercial jets have been considered, but public opinion by a wide margin wants a pilot to fly them from A to B.

What technology better do is find an alternative fuel source. Airliners are requiring that planes fly with as high a fuel efficiency rate as possible. Oil supplies are dwindling. It's a real problem that's going to create serious issues if we're not ready for it in the next 20-30 years.

Technology is going to keep improving whether people want it or not. I'm excited to see what the human mind can come up with. Materials are going to get smarter, data will be transferred faster.
