"Thou shall put more savepoints"
I may have to disagree with you on that one. I grew up on arcade games and old-school platformers. If you couldn't do what they asked of you in a set amount of lives, then you need to go back and do it all again. It's called challenge. Players don't need their hand held all the way to the ending of the game. They need to get better and overcome whatever hurdle comes their way.
Have you played "Lost Odysey"??? If
not so, then you'll now what I'm talking about.
Your disagreement only applies only in platform games, try an RPG with fixtation save points or such...
Buddy, I've played a few other games where you can only save at certain locations. It's been around for a while. A part of the game then becomes planning your save points before going out to complete quests and the like. Take for example, Dead Rising. You only get one save slot in that game and if you just found out that you messed up somewhere in the game, you gotta load from the last time you saved, costing you some time wasted by carelessness or maybe even requiring you to restart the
entire game from the begining if you're trying for the true ending but messed up badly enough with your time management. Stuff like that is usually added to increase the overall challenge of the game which is, unfortunately, commonly thought to be bad game design by frustrated players. However, at least Dead Rising manages to evade any scorn from players as any character progression previously made is kept when you start a new game.
