Not sure why this hasn't been put up yet, the game's been out for a little bit now.
Meh, I've beaten the game on all difficulties, so now I feel i have the right to start this one.
Dante's Inferno, yay or nay people?!
To start things out, I myself feel that this is a fantastic game. The only problem i have with it is the fact that Death's Scythe and Beatrice's Cross are the only two weapons you get for basic combat. However despite this, the scythe has a nigh endless amount of possible combos, and the cross is never a bad idea to use...so why I would switch weapons I wouldn't know, still, variety is good yah?
The difficulty is rightly challenging, and you get rewards and punishments for doing the game certain ways. There are two sides you can follow in the game, the Unholy and Holy paths. Throughout the game you'll be able to Punish or Absolve demons and devils, as well as Shades you'll find of famous sinners in history and mythology. Hell the second one you find is Orpheus the Musician. When you absolve them, you get Holy experience, allowing you to upgrade your cross, gain holy magic, and the like. However this makes fighting in general a problem, as your scythe is necessary for a vast majority, and the cross isn't near as effective when taking on bosses(except Lucifer, but I won't spoil that* The Unholy side gives you vast amounts of combos with your Scythe, increased attack power, and upgraded Unholy powers, which focus on attacking more than buffing yourself. This can also present a problem as you will have very little actual defenses to go into the game with if you focus on Unholy, as well as no way to regain health aside from winning battles and finding Health Fountains in game.
A good balance between the two will win you the game's default Zealot difficulty without a lot of problems, however after this, you unlock Inferno difficulty, and you have the option of skipping Hellish and going straight to Inferno, which is, literally, ungodly hard. Both sides have upgrades to your health and mana bars, so getting all 4 upgrades is a must before attempting Inferno. The acheivments are relatevely easy, one playthrough and I got about 30 of them.
So overall, I would recommend this gae to anyone who enjoys God of War-like hack and slashers. It definately beats the pants off Darksiders in my opinion.
Thoughts?
