Ok, so I thought I would start this topic so that any of you who have played any recent demo's can come here and write about them and whether or not they're worth downloading or purchasing in the near future. This goes for all platforms (PC, 360, Wii, PS3, Ds, etc)
Ok, first one is Frontlines: Fuel of War (360, PS3, PC) -
The basic story to this is that its the future and oil is near its end. War has broken out between nations so that they may acquire the oil. You play as an American soldier fighting against Red Star, which is a alliance of Russia and China. Now, this is your bog standard FPS with your bog standard weapons; Assault rifle, Grenades, Pistols, you get the jist of it. There are also vehicles to drive. Now, as this is the demo, there are only a select few of weapons and vehicles, but the game states that when release comes round, over 60 vehicles and weapons will be at your disposal. Basically, if you can see it, you can drive it. It also notes that it in single player you will be able to do anything and go anywhere on that map. It will also support XBL with matches of up to 32 people in. With a large map, alot of people & tonnes of weapons and vehicles, the online mathces could be quite hectic and exciting. Also, in the full game there are several classes; Ground Support, EMP tech, Drone Tech, and Air Support. The roles are upgradeable thrice, in an RPG style twist. In the demo; Infantry, Anti-Vehicle and Special Op classes are available. The demo itself is quite a large one (1.69 gb) but for a demo, it's a decent length. The map is a decent sized map at that, with no loading screens. Enemy A.I. at this moment is all over the place, with the possibilty of you just running up to an enemy and them not even firing at you and at the same time you have ones picking you off from a distance. What did seem annoying is when I was using the sniper. I was quite far away and had them in my sights, then they would immediatly know my location and start firing at me, even though there are other guys closer to them and I hadn't even fired a shot yet. But this is the demo of course.
My opinion: Download it, it's pretty good fun. I'll be keeping an eye out for this.
Second game I downloaded this week was Omega Five: (XBLA) - 800 points
This is a 2D scrolling shooter, much like that of R-type, except you play as a Ninja like person. The plot? No idea. It just seemed to throw you into the action straight away. The goal just seems to be defeat the hoard of enemies coming at you. The control system is similar to Geometry wars. Your left stick is movement, and the right stick is you firing. Of course, you get your different grades of weapons, varying from wierd metalic liquid to a flamethrower. Characters also have there own unique abilites with the Women being able to attach some sort of hook that helps you aim, whilst the guy has different firing methods. The abilites for the male seem to change with the weapon, but this doesn't seem to be the case for the female.
Opinion: Seems like good fun but I'm unsure about its longevity. If your a gamer who loves old style arcade games, then you'll enjoy this.
