Any of you heard about this?
I haven't been up-to-date with all the latest Video Game news/content that is considered for the future, but this is one thing I am not looking forward to. Basically, you get a code from the NEW game you purchase at any store and you input that code when you go online with an EA game. Basically, that's about it.
"Why don't you like it" you ask?
Used games and rentals. I am a University student on a TIGHT budget. I spend a LOT of time and money on my classes, and when I DO get time to relax I usually head for the PS3. Now, I don't have a lot of PS3 titles on my shelf (I only have 4, and they are not all entirely mine >_>), so we (brothers and I) rent and/or buy used games. I'd also like to mention that the ONLY way that I actually GOT a PS3 was I sold my older games/consoles.
Now, how will this EA Pass affect this system I have going? Considering that the majority of the games I play are from EA themselves, it is going to impact me a LOT! You see, when the original user of the game sells it to another person, the new owner HAS to pay 10 dollars to use it online (I don't know about you, but I LOVE playing online!).
You could be saying, "Well, just don't play EA games!", and as easy as it sounds, it's a bit hard for me, as I usually spend my time playing the FIFA series. But I'm not just worried about that, I'm a LOT more worried about what will happen in the future. I mean if other companies see EA profiting from this, they'll just do the same thing to their games! It's all about the MONEY (unfortunately)! It's the same reason why Sony and Microsoft are adding on to their current consoles (Move and Kinect) because they realized the Nintendo Wii has a COMPLETELY different audience, and they are trying woo that audience to their consoles.
This will effect Indie Video Game stores, people on TIGHT budgets, and possibly see the end to renting Video Games.
Frankly, I'd hate to see that happen :(
Update: THQ and Ubisoft are going to join EA in this type of system.
The only rational reason I see that they'd do this is because of piracy. I don't know if that would be hurtful enough to a company like EA though
But this just is a load of crap. There are a few of situations that could make this very unfair such as if your console fails and dies so you have to get a new one or you want to play on a friends console.

Has this already been implemented?
I do believe they have, for their EA 2011 titles anyway.
I'm really hoping this DOESN'T catch on. Complete Bullshit.

EA downlaods are tied to your account, not console so you have nothing to fear when it comes to that. They're doing it to prevent second hand sales. Pretty smart if I said so myself. The pass is not even that expensive.
And yes, it already has been implemented. Tiger Woods 11 was the first game to have it.

Yes it is pretty smart.
It's totally going to kill my ability to buy an NEW titles, seeing how my older games will lose value because of this. This is also going to take a lot of people out of work, and last time I checked, that wasn't a good thing.
The only way they are even going to see that money is if someone sells the USED version, AND if the previous owner used the code. So, their promises of better addition to the game-play and updated rosters and the such BECAUSE of the 10$ code is bullshit.
I've already ordered MOH BEFORE I knew about this. Guess I should have done my research. >_>
It's obviously a good idea business wise. I know it sucks for people who buy games and sell them. I don't buy used and never sell my games so it doesn't affect me at all.
Sport games always dramatically go down in value after their a year old so it doesn't make that much difference there. Other games are gonna suffer a bit thought.
But hey, that's what tends to happen when businesses like GameStop forces people to buy used instead of new even on release days.

I just wish that people knew they had other options besides GameStop and all the corporate stores.
Well, It's starting with the Sports Games (Not sure if it will effect MOH and the such). The new Assasins Creed might also have it as Ubisoft is going on the bandwagon, as is THQ with WWE.
These guys are thinking outside the box, I tell ya!
From what I understand this system is similar to the Cerberus Network pack in that came with Mass Effect 2 which gives bonus stuff to people who purchase the game new in order to discourage used sales which are viewed as 'problematic' by most publishers due to the fact that when a used game is sold the retailer sells at pure profit for near full price and the publisher doesn't get any of the money from that sale.
