How do you feel about gold(currency) selling/buying? do you buy gold? any ideas how companies can stop it?
i think it ruins the player run economy. if it's allowed to get too far out of hand, the farmers can eventually dictate the price of items on the open market, there by ensuring that no one can afford anything with out buying gold. other players will sucumb to greed, and price their items close to the gold farmers higher price.
back when i started playing WoW, you could start a new character on a new server and buy low level gear from the auction house with just mob drop and quest reward cash(much less than 1g). by the time i quit, about two years later, the low level gear on the AH was was going for 2-10g. unless you either bought gold, or had a high level toon on the same server for finacial support, you were stuck with what ever gear dropped randomly. whether it was spec'd for your class or not. once it gets that bad, it encourages people new to the game to buy gold too. thus perpetuating the cycle.
some companies are strict about it and will even ban players caught buying gold. others don't seem to care at all.
providing micro transactions for in game items seems to make buying gold from outside sources look a little less atractive to players. strict penalties and enforcment can make a difference too i think.
not to mention the constant anoying bot spam advertising their site. plus there is always the risk of getting hacked buy the gold sellers. but i think if you buy gold instead of earn it, you desrve to lose all your loot.
