I believe that anyone who has ever watched Nanoha has said "there needs to be a fighting game based on magical girls blowing the shit out of stuff, preferably in the style of the DBZ Budokai games". Seriously, I know a couple of people in real life who said that, I said it myself, and I've seen people say it on the internet. Well, anyway, where big companies have failed, doujin circles have come through, and at C74 they released what I now present to you: Magical Battle Arena.

v1.01 Patch (adds 3 new characters): http://www.mediafire.com/?yhryd0y0d1w
Main Menu Options:

Story Mode

VS Mode

Training Mode

Network Play (possibly online? Not sure, can't try)

Options[/list:u]
Basic Controls:

Arrow Keys - Move around

Z - Projectile (long-range characters can rapid-fire and charge up shots)

X - Shield (only blocks attacks coming from front)

C - Dash (press twice, maybe with a direction, to boost-dash, I think)

A - Melee attack (can be charged to guard-break or knock enemy back)

S - Power Up (replenishes the blue energy meter)

D - Change Target (when facing multiple enemies)

Q/W - Fly Up and Down (don't remember which one is which)[/list:u]
Specials:

Techniques - These attacks don't drain any energy, but each one has a cooldown time, indicated by a little yellow bar, you can tell which bar goes to which technique by the numbers below each bar. Some techniques can be charged, and they're all quite useful and are really what set each character apart.

Technique 1 - S+A - Usually quick and easy but lacking in power.

Technique 2 - S+Z - Reliable and powerful if used well.

Technique 3 - S+X - Defensive or utility techniques, use carefully.[/list:u]

Burst Mode - S+C - When the red circular bar surrounding your character's mugshot is full and flashing white, you can enter a powerful Burst Mode. This increases your speed, melee combo length, and magic/technique recharge times until the bar is depleted. The bar fills up as you deal damage or take damage.

Mega Blast Techniques: Powerful super moves, these typically take a fair amount of time to use but are immensely powerful. You must be in Burst Mode to use them, and using one will completely drain your burst meter. Remember that while you're shielded from attacks while casting these, you're not completely invulnerable like in most games - if enough damage is done, the shield will break, exposing you to enemy attacks which WILL interrupt the move, so you do have to be kind of careful where and when you use them when up against multiple enemies (I don't think a single enemy can break the shield fast enough).

Mega Blast 1 - C+S+A - Good damage, long casting time, massive area of effect (although the accuracy varies ENORMOUSLY by character)

Mega Blast 2 - C+S+Z - Fires a ranged attack at one enemy; if it misses, the move's wasted, but if it hits, that enemy is pretty much immobilized while you perform a very strong cinematic attack against that one enemy. This is your ultimate attack, so use it well. I'm pretty sure you can only use this one when you're on your last bar of health.[/list:u][/list:u]
Melee Combat: When you're flying around spamming beams, movement's pretty much unrestricted, but when you're fairly close to your opponent, characters move a bit differently and some new movement options are available. Most of that's really just a different "feel", such as dashing being more limited, but there's one important move that you need to know: when close to your opponent, you can press Down+X to instantly teleport behind them (or Up+X to teleport in front of them), after which you can attack right away with basically no delay. It is both an excellent defensive tool and a fantastic offensive tool, as you can teleport out of the way of any melee attack and strike at the enemy's vulnerable back. You pretty much have to get used to doing it because the only way to counter it is to use it yourself to get the upper hand, and the smarter AIs can use this excellently and will wreck you if you're not ready to do the same.
A piece of advice: I suggest you don't pick Nanoha or Fate the first time you go through story mode, they go up against Sakura early, and she's got difficult-to-avoid moves and a particularly nasty AI very good at teleport-fighting, so you'll need some play experience before you can get past her.
You can also add custom soundtracks. Just go to the Bgm folder and paste whatever song you want there, but it has to be in WAV format and must be renamed bgm01, bgm02, bgm03, bgm04 etc...

I am having flashbacks from Magic girl lyrical Nanoha right now... Well since I liked Nanoha (Demonic cannon girl, so fitting) I will download this game, cute girls with firepower equivalent to beam cannons is something interesting to see.
After several hours of getting my choice of magical girl ass handed back to me I got this question.
How the fuck we are supposed to pass the level with FIVE 5! copies of the magical girl attacking us at once? At the best I kill two of them while they all pound at me as crazy.
It's typically pretty easy (though harder with some characters than others). The trick is to keep your distance, take out a couple with ranged attacks, and then just fire your super move for massive damage and pick off anyone who's left - the best thing about being outnumbered is that as long as you can keep the enemies from riding your ass, you do enough total damage with a mega blast to recharge your burst meter right back up to full, allowing you to fire another mega blast, and so on.
The later levels where you have to fight multiple gadget drones and one normal enemy are basically the same until the normal enemy comes out, at which point you use one last super to take out as many of the remaining gadget drones as you can and then duke it out with the enemy until you're on your last bar of health, then use your second super and hope it does enough damage to kill the enemy.
the hardest part is when u play the enemy boss's story.
that last battle took me so long to finish. did manage to kill them all using the last skill. :P

Good advice, like alot i dont listen to advice so i had to restart it here the first time around - play experience is nice against Sakura

... Dragon Slave
Honestly, Lina has got to be the easiest character to use in the game. Or at least, I find her easy to use.
Spam Fireball with the occasional Gaav Flare, And do Dragon Slave. Bye bye, every-fucking-one.
Omg XD this game is crazy but fun at same time far better than the DBZ Budokai thingy..
I got through the one stage where I use Fate, I haven't really tried other characters at all cuz Fate is that winsauce.
And the stage is, one with five or six copies of Fate fight yer at once, I got through it by using the sword and spamming the HAHA I KILLED U sword blast across the map. Then the next stage was like fifteen ? or ten drones? plus a magical girl, I was like omg i'm too tired to fight against all that! lol
Yes I really enjoy digging in to the enemy while slashing with the badass looking sword like crazy.
