Ok lemme clear things up,
first of all, FEEL TEH OVER MEGAH NECRO BUMP IN YOUR FACE.
Also, i've been playing NieR for the last couple of hours.
The western release of NieR called "NieR"/"NieR Gestalt" and the japanese version "RepliCant" have pretty much the same scenario but they both are featuring 2 different main characters.
SE assumed that having an old character would be more to the westerner's taste therefore they only kept the young teen for the japanese version.
Like i said, scenario-wise they are both the same, in RepliCant, it's a young boy fighting to save his sister whereas in Gestalt, it's a father-daughter relationship that's taking place.
I personally don't mind controlling either the old jeezer or the high school boy as long as they have both the same scenario. (Well i gotta admit having the young hero is more fitting to have a relationship with Kainé >_<...... Whatever .)
Gameplay wise, if you've seen videos of the first battles in the game, you immediatly got that weird impression of hitting paper, like... There's no weight behind the strikes you're dealing against the monsters but don't worry, that only lasts in the beggining. As you go further in the story you'll gain control over different weapons and spells making the battle look moar epic.
RPG-wise your own character have to lvl up through many battles, your weapons also have their own lvl which can be upgraded with materials found everywhere in the world (Collecting, loots from monsters, shops etc...). I haven't gotten to that part but you'll also be able to raise your own garden, plant things, be a pro-farmer :>. Fishing will also be a feature later available in the gam
There is a lot of freedom in this game, almost like a MMO, you go to towns, do some side-quests you get from the town's people... GRIND LIKE A MAD FUCK ( nah just kidding). The quests are various: in one you kill some sheeps, in the other you gotta play a librarian... Well to be more precise the quests are mentioned as "jobs" since from the NPC's view you're just a poor father without money trying his best to help his daughter.
The story so far looks INTERESTING, i've yet to meet all the key characters (i don't even have Kainé in my party yet :<).
Amongst the interesting characters, there is that living/talking book called "Grimoire Weis" whom the meeting with the main character happens early in the game. He is be the source of your magical powers so naturally the earlier you get him the better you'll manage against monsters. Strangely enough the relationship between those two is VERY, like VERY similar to the couple Margery Daw + her grimoire in Shakugan no Shana. Often during the game you'll hear them talk/complain/rant about a lot of stuff depending on the situation they're in (BTW you gotta love his english voice dub). I do hold high hopes for this game's scenario, which is one of the reasons i've bought this game.
The other reason would be... The awesome soundtrack. Indeed the soundtrack is so fitting to the game's world it's as if the guy who made the songs actually lived there. It's just magnificent, pretty much every soundtrack in this game will keep you in awe. *Will now look for the responsible*
Graphic wise it's not extraordinary, it's not ugly either but since SE was behind this game you expected it to be a little better than this. Until now, i think this was my only complaint about this game.
Also i do no like to compare this game with a certain GOD3. They are different. Don't try to seek something common between those 2 games, it's just WRONG...
Anyways, this was a little half assed review made by me. I will probably make another one when i'll finish this game.
Until then...
