The story of Agarest goes into a stark direction as themes of faith, perseverance, and the ultimate atrocity are explored in this all new installment.
Not to say there won't be any sexy massages, though.
STORY One day, the world was engulfed in a single flash of brilliant light. It was more destructive than sublime, and looked like the type of lightning that makes one think of the rage of the gods. With it came a scouring of the world not seen since the original war of the gods. In addition, the people who lived on the continent from which the light originated were never heard from again.
That fateful day became known as the "Day of Light" and it marked when the world began to change. It also signified the start of the demon plague that spread throughout all of Agarest.
At the center of all of these events is Weiss, a young man who was given the responsibility of being the Spirit Vessel after committing the sin of killing a god. His memory was all but destroyed, with only the knowledge of his name remaining. It was only when meeting the mysterious Eva does he learn of his crime of deicide and of the penance that had been given to him, which is to retrieve the fractured power of the god and store it within himself in order to resurrect the god he had slew.
Those who betray the trust of the gods will be condemned to pay for their sin forever in the void between where everlasting life and eternal damnation meet.
Gameplay
Just watch the trailer:
The game comes out on the PS3 June 26 with a $60 Limited Edition (pictured above).
I'm really surprised that this game hasn't gotten a thread until now. Seriously. I expected a few Fakkuzas would've been excited for this.
Well, it has a thread now, so leT'S GETHYPED!!
The everlasting repetitive battles turned me off in the first game, not even the story could keep me going :(
Well the gameplay seems to have gotten some much needed improvement. It fits better with me, anyway. If you didn't get a sense of how things have changed from the trailer, then check out this scene/fight:
One thing that annoyed me was the constant need of placing your characters on the grid according to their bounds, and also the need to find ALL the different combinations of skills.
Animation looks cool on this one though and the overall battle system looks more simplified which is better.

I've already pre-ordered the game, so after I've played it for a bit I'll come back and tell you how the combat is first-hand. If it still has those annoying bits that turned you off the first Agarest I'll tell you. That way you can save your cash in case it turns out to still be as restrictive as the first game.
