Hey guys.
I'm creating a "fake" gameboy game animation in order to tell a story. And I need help creating the world and story. Anyone interested?
The fake game will follow as strict rules as possible to be loyal to its gameplay mechanics and gameboy limitations.
Gameplay-wise, think of a pokemon-clone, but much more strategy based, with a fast-pace, and anti-grind objective. There is no leveling up. Rather, what were EVs and IVs in Pokemon are now equipment you can buy. Likewise, there is no move learning! Rather, once you unlock a move, you can continuously teach it over to your monsters!
Call it a Pokemon rippoff if you wish. But the intention is to design a game inspired by the competitive pokemon community, balanced and designed for competitive play.
Anyways, I've already started working on sprites:
Problem is, I do not have a story and world yet. Thus' I am not sure what kind of maps to make, or what tiles to design.
I do have a story objective however. My objective is to create a story where, rather than the antagonist being the villain, she is the heroine who LOVES the protagonist! Yet they are torn apart by unsettled childhood conflict... Their opposing goals are ultimately just an excuse to settle a duel... (I wish to aim for something romantic.)
Meanwhile, the objective of this overall project is to tell a story, and create a GOOD story, even despite 8-bit limitations!
However, as I've said, I lack a world... I lack a story.... All I've set in stone for sure is I wish to establish a semi-modern setting, and to push 8-bit beauty to its limits with a neon city!
Is anyone here enough of a Pokemon fan to help me plan out the story and world of this project?
