I don't know why, but I'd like to see an anime or manga that stats the sandman.
You know, wizard looking guy, rubs sand in your eyes to help you sleep. That guy.
I figured what if he was the protagonist, and once he puts people to sleep with his magic sand, he enters the dream to fight off the nightmares in children. Said nightmares are being led by the Succubus and Incubus, who have grown tired of raiding the lustful dreams of adults and are instead trying to feed off the sweetness and innocence of youth.
I know Succubi and Incubi pretty much are demons that sexually assault you in your sleep, but given how now adays they have become more like sorcerers rather than demons, I suppose it would make since for them to extract Energy from dreams because magic and stuff, and they won't even have to leave their thrones most of the time.
So what do you think of the premise? Should I give writing it a shot?
I think it sounds great, you should certainly pursue writing it if you have a call to, and you should write now while you have that motivation and not wait.
I'm not sure why, but the premises sort of reminds me of Soul Eater, to a degree.
About the properties of succubi and incubi, you are sort of right, but being a demon and being a sorcerer are not mutually exclusive. They are usually both and could be considered enchanters of a sort, becoming alluring through use of magical intoxication, verbal persuasion, or physical seduction. Succubi were traditionally known to cause nocturnal emissions in men (ejaculation during sleep).
Although, you should know that it also was prevalent in ancient times to blame women who came to men after birthing their child out of wedlock (sinful relations) as being succubi to get away from a death sentence and having to take responsibility. Incubi were also similar to this, a concept utilized to explain nighttime male rapists for creeping into the homes of unsuspecting women.
If you know of the mythological stories of Merlin and Gilgamesh, both are known to have been fathered by incubi. If you want inspiration for your villains, you might take a page from the Epic of Gilgamesh. His father was an incubus named Lilu, notorious for seducing women. Lilith, on the other side of the spectrum, has been a small but popular topic in the background of religious scholastics, known as Adam's first wife who refused to submit to him and was banished and cursed to birth horrible monstrosities instead of humans. She would go on to be responsible for going after men in their sleep and the semen she would collect would birth even more demons, thus she became known as one of the mothers of all demons and is responsible for creating the modern image of what a succubus is when we think of one today.
If you want to know more, Wikipedia is a great resource.
Best of luck developing this story.
