It’s strange to have a girl drive you home when you were always the one who drove them, pick them up and take them home. That’s how I’ve always done it but then this is an exception, I’ve never had a busted leg and arm, before.
“So um,” I said pausing trying to figure out what to say. “Thank you for driving me home.”
“It’s alright,” Melinda said as she diverted her gaze, from me. “I. I had fun.”
“Uh would you like to,” I started, then paused what am I doing I barely know this girl why would she even consider it? “Never mind forget I said anything.”
“Were you going to ask me inside?” She asked her face flushing.
“Forget it,” I said as I opened the door. “It was a bad lapse in my judgment to say anything.”
“I’ve nothing else to do,” she said still not looking at me. “No one waiting for me at my own apartment, I’d like to stay with you for the warmth of company.”
“Are you sure?” I asked timidly, I seriously need to get a hold of myself here. A beautiful young girl who I feel strong feelings of love and wanting towards wants to stay with me, why do I doubt myself, and these situations?
“Yes,” she said as she got out of the car herself.
The inside of my apartment to most people would leave a lot to be desired. I live alone in a one bed one bath apartment, with a small kitchenette the apartment in all could be considered 3 rooms, when you walk in there is a small linoleum covered area of the floor, then a trackless carpet that looks like the color of uncooked rice that you buy in a store takes over the rest of it save for the bathroom and kitchenette which have the same linoleum floor as the entrance.
The decorating is that of a man who loves film noir, movie posters from old black and white movies, Hitchcock films, even foreign films lined the walls. In one corner of the room sat an oak TV stand that had a decent sized flat screen TV on it and speakers were mounted in the corners of the room. A leather couch sat positioned against one wall, with a good view of the TV and a matching Leather recliner sat positioned just so that one can watch TV or talk to someone sitting on the couch with ease. A bookshelf filled with DVD’s sat next to the TV stand, and the finishing touch was a small oak dining table with 4 chairs around it, sat adjacent to the Kitchenette.
The bedroom is another example of a bachelor. A standard sized bed without a headboard is the largest piece of furniture, while a six drawer dresser sits with 4 feet between the foot of the bed and it. Is the home of another Flat Screen TV all be it a smaller one, a night stand with a small lamp and an alarm clock sits on the right side of the bed. The bathroom is possibly the most minimalistic room in the apartment, on the counter where the sink is sits a can of Barbasol, a razor, a tube of tooth paste, a bottle of Listerine, a container of dental floss, and a cup with a tooth brush sticking out of it, is possibly the most decoration in the room. The tub has only a bottle of shampoo; some conditioner and a bottle of body wash all plainly visible through the clear vinyl shower curtain.
“Welcome to Casa Johnny,” I laughed satirically. “The home of a guy who has no decorative taste what so ever and I mean it. The last time I moved, it took a small U-Haul to get all my stuff and it took me and a buddy, six hours to move everything from point A to point B and have it set up. Would you like something to drink?”
“Uh no thank you,” Melinda said as she was looking at the DVD’s that I had. “You are a peculiar man.”
“And why is that?” I asked as I sat down in the recliner.
“I’ve heard of only a handful of these films,” Melinda said. “Seen fewer, and each of them are older than I am.”
“They are all older than I am as well,” I said as I sat there. “I was born in 74 I think the newest movie on that shelf was made in 76.”
What am I doing? Why am I just sitting here? Why am I not trying to move things along? All these questions are running through my head as a wild fancy runs through my head. But my stomach brought me back to reality. I seem to have three things I think with sometimes my head, my dick and my stomach; and right now my stomach is mad because I haven’t had anything to eat all day.
“Eh heh, heh,” I chuckled as I rubbed my stomach. “Are you getting hungry?”
“Now that you mention it I had lunch before I came into the bank and that was it,” Melinda said as she turned around.
“It’s Saturday so I normally get a pizza or dim sum,” I said dully.
“Dim sum sounds good,” Melinda said. “It’s fun to pick at a carton of Chinese takeout while you are cuddled up with someone watching a movie.”
“What do you like?” I asked as I got up and walked over to the phone.
“Um, I like the General Tso Chicken.”
“Alright,” I said as I dialed the phone number for the local Dim sum place, gave them my usual order and with the addition to an extra order of fried sweet doughnuts and the General Tso’s chicken for delivery. “It’ll be here in about 45 minutes. Pick a movie and we’ll watch it in the mean time.”
“Any movie?” She asked as she looked at the case.
“Any one of them,” I said as I sat on the couch with the remote, watching as she grabbed one of the cases and put the DVD into the DVD Player. When I saw what movie it was, I just looked at her and waited till she sat down before I started speaking again. “Is it me or do you like movies with Humphrey Bogart? First Casablanca and now another one †˜In A Lonely Place’; It’s a good movie, but I’m surprised by you, not too many people would choose this one.”
“I’m not like most other people,” Melinda said as she nuzzled herself right next to me. “Besides you look like a younger Humphrey Bogart.”
My mind was sent racing at by this, the warmth of her body spread into mine and she sat so close to me her I hit the play button and lowered my arm around her, just sitting there made time seem to stop; just me and her, alone in an eternity. Her scent filled my nose, and my brain shut down leaving my dick to do the thinking, but that was overruled by my stomach, and I almost didn’t want to answer the door when the food arrived.
“Alright,” a little oriental man said as I opened the door. “General Tso’s Chicken, Bourbon Chicken, extra Green Peppers, and an order of Fried Sweet Doughnuts. That is twenty one dolla for food.”
“Here’s 25 keep the change,” I said as I handed him a twenty and a five.
“Thank you very much sir,” the guy said as I closed the door. “Hungry?” I sat the food on the coffee table and then moved into the kitchenette to grab a pair of chopsticks that I owned, “Do you want a fork or a pair of chopsticks? Also what do you want to drink?”
“I’ll just use the ones they give you,” Melinda said as she took a pair that were in the bag. “And if you have any kind of soda that would be nice.”
“Ice?” I asked as I grabbed two cans of root beer, from the fridge.
“If it’s cold no thank you,” she said as I started talking back into the room a pair of chopsticks in my mouth, and two cans in my right hand. “Here let me help you with that.”
Right when she stood up, I noticed something that made my other head take control; her skirt had ruffled just so slightly I was given a good view of her panties even though for just a split second, I was glad the chopsticks were in my mouth, because I probably would have whistled if they weren’t.
“You have your own chopsticks?” Melinda said as I sat down and stuck the chopsticks into a pint of fried rice.
“Yes,” I said bluntly. “I’ve got three more pairs of them. I just don’t like the disposable ones that they give you. The last time I used a pair I got a splinter in my tongue.”
When I said this she laughed, and I could feel my face flushing slightly, it wasn’t funny, but I could see how someone would find it funny. “I’m sorry for laughing. But a splinter in your tongue, the thought just made me crack up.”
“You won’t laugh when it happens to you,” I said dryly as I maneuvered some of the rice into my mouth, as the movie started playing again.
As we ate I can’t really tell if we actually paid that much attention to the movie. Because I suddenly found her picking at my bourbon chicken, then looking at me with puppy dog eyes when I looked at her as she ate it. Things then spiraled from there, she ended up feeding me, and I her. The movie had stopped playing long before we actually finished eating. She took the trash to the little rubbish bin in the kitchenette and I followed her in grabbing a bag of popcorn, and threw it in the microwave.
Once that was popped, we were back on the couch, a bowl of popcorn sitting on our laps, as we sat close watching movies, as the day turned to night. I don’t know how many movies we watched, but all I know is that we must have fallen asleep because when I woke up it was daylight, and the TV was still on the DVD Menu for Vertigo, and Melinda’s head was on my chest as she was sound asleep.
This is the kind of thing I’ve been wanting, a meaning that only someone else can bring to me. Something like this, just waking up, after falling asleep watching old movies with someone, to find them still asleep in your arms, it’s something that, I’ve been missing, something that I needed.
I sat there for a few minutes watching her sleep, her face so peaceful as she laid there, but it wasn’t long before she woke up, and then sat bolt upright and looked at me. “Wha, what, what time is it?”
I flipped the TV over to the local TV Guide channel to find that it was about noon, then I turned the TV off, before I stood up. “I really had a great time, and I realized what I’ve been missing.”
“What are you saying?” She asked as she looked at me.
“I realized that I’ve been missing something in my life.” I said as I moved to and fro across the room huddling on my crutches. “I’ve been missing that connection of two people. You have brought that back to me, what I’m trying to say is that I like you, and well, I’d like to see where this could lead.”
“Are you saying…” she trailed off, as she stood and walked closer to me.
“That I think I love you?” I asked as she put her arms around my neck. “Then yes, I didn’t think I would be able to say something like this but getting to know you, what little we’ve shared, I feel...”
My words were cut off as she pressed her lips to mine, what I was going to say faded away in the sheer bliss of this moment. My consciousness faded into the moment, all I could think about we her touch, her warmth, it felt as if a million years had passed in the few seconds that she had kissed me.
“Don’t say another word,” She said as we parted. “I want this to remain the way it is, I don’t want things to be rushed.”
“Nor do I,” I said as I stood there.
“I need to get back home,” she said, as she kissed me one more time. “I’ll call you latter.”
“Uh yeah,” I said as I walked her to the door and watched her get into her car and drive off. “What have I got myself into?” I( asked myself as I moved to tit in my armchair and mull this over. I’ve confessed my love to a girl that I barely know and who happens to be 12 years younger than me and to top it all off my boss’s daughter. If it was anytime for a hard drink it would be now but I needed another hydrocodone.
My arm and leg were killing me and it much to my displeasure is the only thing readily available to kill the pain. After I was released from the hospital I was given 15 tabs that was about a month ago and there are still nine left. Once the cast come off, and I’m certain the pain is gone for good, they are going right down the toilet. It took about thirty minutes before the feeling of pain started to fade away as the medicine took effect. “Only two more weeks I hope.”
