@Xenon many thx for the suggestion, however nothing feels quite right from having browsed a decent number of name lists. This could be due in part to my failure to yet decide on a localization for the setting.
@artcellrox the character descriptions are as follows for their beginning descriptions and attributes.
Protag:
Apathetic and emotionally oblivious, has a bit of a wall around himself due childhood trauma. Also has feelings of guilt and sporadic self hatred due to that trauma. High School- college age. Physical build is average for his age, intellect is a little slow on the up take (rank c- intel :P)
Mentor:
Total smartass, but does so to make others think. ask a straight question, get a straight answer; ask a question you know the answer to (or are just to lazy to think about) and he'll give you a smartass remark in return. Middle aged. Quite wise (even if he is a bit out of touch with world around him) Some kind of spiritual authority (monk/priest/guru etc...) and powerful, but a bit on the lazy side.
Antagonist:
Cold and disinterested, occupation is psychologist. Doesn't want to deal with protag and writes off his issues by shoving more and varied pills down his throat, has been treating protag for a considerable amount of time. Very smart and well read, but due to this looks down on people a bit.
Best male friend:
a bit of a prankster and the comic relief of the protag's group of friends. a bit above average intelligence which he uses to mess with the male protag. Is a long time friend of the protag and knows about his trauma (tries to avoid it and doesn't let others touch on the subject if he can help it). deeply in love with female best friend (but he keeps it secret).
Female best friend:
Another long time friend of the protag, not as long as the male best friend though. a definite tomboy and a touch on the openly flirty side. has one parent from a current culture and another from localization culture. Speaks both languages fluently, but has a bit of an accent due to growing up in foreign culture previous to meeting protag.
Older sister figure: Freya
Building manager/owner of protag's living quarters. recently inherited from deceased parent and employs protag for help from time to time. a tough love type character, and a bit gruff at times. very kind in thoughts and actions, even if it doesn't come off that way all the time. has rare moments of pure tenderness but only when absolutely called for.
Parents:
Mother and Father seperated shortly after protag's trauma. Mother blames protag for what happened, while father tries to understand and help his son but only ends up hurting him time and time again. father pays for living quarters for protag so he doesn't have to interact with him as he's awkward with how to interact with him without hurting him. Drowns himself in work and alcohol to try and numb the pain. Mother has no interaction with son or x-husband at all.
didn't post these earlier as I wasn't certain I would even get a response here and didn't want to waste readers time (if anyone read) or my own entering these if there wasn't one :P
any suggestions would be appreciated (including modifying characters if they sound too bland or too overstated.)
