Found a nice pic, decided to write a passage to go with it.
The noise of the gunship's massive rotor drowned out nearly all thought, but Joshua Atrios and his team knew the objective, and it was all flying through their heads at alarming speed.
Hot-drop at DZ, proceed five hundred meters north-west to designated emergency beacon. Recover Marine Force Recon team callsign 'Chaos One Six'. Perform four-corners sweep and collapse formation onto Force Recon operators. Return cargo to gunship, clear DZ, dustoff. Estimated time for mission completion: ten minutes.
That was the briefing, plain and simple. The same routine Atrios and his men had encountered and overcome countless times. He made a point not to bring a target home dead.
"Passing the DZ in twenty seconds, get ready!" The pilot yelled to the cabin, his voice also acutely calm. One of the two crew chiefs stood from his seat and entered the seat for the 30mm chin gun while the other readied to open the door. The seconds calmly ticked by until they felt the landing gear touch upon solid ground.
"Touch down, get ready to...Oh, shit! Contacts, spin up the fucking cannon!" The pilot yelled, losing his cool. The crew chief began firing the cannon into the forest around the gunship and the other crew chief opened the door to assess the situation.
All around the clearing in the dense forest, tracers flew from the trees, bouncing harmlessly off the hull of the gunship. The crew chief swore and looked to Atrios.
"Can't let you guys go in there, it's too hot! We'll have to pull back and attempt another incursion later!"
"Fuck that! Those guys need our help, we're going to get them!" Atrios responded as he jumped from the helicopter and landed on the dirt below. His rifle bounced around on its sling as he unholstered his sidearm and began firing into the treeline. His team was out soon after, each of them firing as well. The crew chief reached out to them, yelling a warning.
All the while the gunship's cannon resonated its loud report as it fired into the night.
