Chapter 1: Paris
I never thought I would one day be standing atop the Eiffel Tower. Let alone waiting for some informant. Whenever Oracle gets a premonition it's off to some corner of the world to stop something. This time it's a who and not a something. I've been in the city for two week now under the guise of a traveling magician. If it was known why I was really here I would probably be dead, or hunted one. But the view is incredible from up here, the sun is high overhead, the city surrounds me. This is one of those true moment where time seems so stand still.
“It's an incredible view is it not?” A man asked as he walked up beside me.
“It is,” I responded without turning away. “Though I would rather it be night as to see the city lights.”
“True, our city is most beautiful at night,” the man said. “But our sewers are something to marvel as well.”
This guy I my informant is what ran through my head when he said that. “From what I have heard one could get lost down there if not careful.”
“True,” The informant said as he looked at his watch. “Oh look at the time I must be going.” The informant handed me an envelope as he turned to walk away, with a movement so fluid like on would think it never happened.
I waited a few more minutes before heading out myself, then down to a small café near the hotel I was staying at. If anyone a following me they would think nothing of my actions because I had the same routine everyday.
“Ah Misuser Fox,” A main said as I walked into the hotel lobby. “A Young lady saying she was your sister called for you an hour ago. She said to call her back, when you got the chance.”
“I will and thank you,” I aid as I walked over to the elevators. So the chief called huh? Must be wanting a progress report it's been to weeks with nothing new to report I'll have to send something to her when I get this Intel processed.
The main reason I chose this hotel was the fact that there is no security cameras in the elevators. So I was able to open the envelope and recover the disk from it. Inside my room I flicked on the lights and walked over to where my laptop sat. I put the disk into the drive and opened a music file as to make anyone that may be listing I was just listening to some CD.
The disk actually contained a few image files and read me files. All suspects who our team is to go after to stop this thing from happening. A few Arab Chimeras that call them selves Darkness plan on doing something that could kill millions. I don't know if it's me or what but every time theres some sort of terrorist cell it's either located in the middle east or in Southeast Asia.
I can't trust E-Lines with this so I'm going to have do it the old fashion way. I bought a CD just the other day, I can use the case to smuggle the disk without anyone knowing. I opened up a web browser and wrote out an email to the dummy account that we use to send emails to.
Hey sis,
Paris I great, I'm going to head to Rome for a week and then I'm going to come back home. I've got presents for you and the others. Tell the guy I'll be back with some cool stuff in a week.
Your bother,
Luke
If anyone was to suspect something of that they must be highly paranoid, of anyone and anything.
After I sent the message I laid back on the bed and took a nap, it's going to be hard breaking the news to Misuser Frost. I've brought in quite a crowed for the past few nights with my magic tricks. But all good things must come to an end.
The sun had set when I woke up, and out the door once again. Paris at night is a little different, the older tourist are mostly tucked away and the backpacking college kids that like to party till the sun comes up are really out thick.
But my destination is Le Red Fox Theater. The place that brings in a local crowd mo than anything else, but it's decent, getting a 5% cut from the ticket sales. It's kept me from pending money that could trace me back to Chaos.
“Sad news Frost,” I said as I walked into the back stage. “It's my last show tonight. I'm hading down to the South towards Rome for a few days before I head home.”
“That I a truly sorry thing,” a man with blue hair said, as he walked up and hugged me. “I hope you will go all out tonight.”
“I've been wanting to pull out the stops,” I said as I made a flames appear from my fingertips. “After all, I'm a mage type.”
“It's a full crowd tonight,” Frost said as he walked back to the dressing room where I was siting. “I'm going to miss your shows bringing more money into me, the 5% cut you gt is just a drop in the bucket. Oh well it's how you say show time.”
“Ladies and Gentlemen,” I said, as I walked out onto the stage. Frost came over a loud speaker giving a translation of what I said. “Tonight is the last how I will be giving, but this will be my biggest yet.” I snapped my fingers and a flame appeared on one of my finger tips. Which then turned into a ice crystal.
“Magic is what many people only dream of, but I assure you these are no parlor tricks. I was blessed to be turned into a Mage type chimera.”
The show lasted for a few hours before I decided to give them a bang, for the end. Combining two forces of nature can be tricky business, but adding an illusion to it, it's just insane to think about.
“In my left hand I hold a ball of ice, in my right a ball of fire. Normally I would freeze the fire but this time I'm going to do something different.”
A fog of steam billowed forth from the contact of the fire and ice.
“The forces of nature are very fickle. If your not careful you can easily cause a disaster. Just now it looks like it's going to rain.”
I used my power to move the steam over the heads of the crowd using my power once more, to condense it into a cloud. As people tried to cover themselves from the onslaught of rain they though would happen. I let the team dissipate and replaced it with an illusion that started to snow.
“Or maybe it could snow. But I'll leave it to you to dig yourselves out because I've got to run.”
A bright light flashed forth from my hand as I waved, and disappeared with a trap door in the Stage. I've never been one for using magic to make myself invisible because I can only go as far as making myself invisible, and not my clothing.
“Here's your cut,” Frost said handing over a small envelope. “I should charge you for damages, but then I know you are not that stupid. There is no snow is there?”
“Take a look out the it's already gone,” I laughed. “It was all an illusion but that steam was real.”
“So where will you go now?”
I grabbed my jacket and put the envelope into it. Before walking over to the door. I tuned around a looked at Frost. “I'm heading to Rome for a few days. Then I'm going back home.”
