[Valentine 2014] Sweet Dreams

“Thank you for coming here everyday. But you’re still a cute young girl, there are many better men for you...” A lady around 30 years old made a sad face while she talked to an 18 years old girl.
The girl smiled and said, “It’s okay, he is my fiance after all.”

The girl went into the second floor and went into a room. “Good afternoon, Taka.”
In front of the girl there’s a boy that’s a bit older than her. Maybe around 20 to 25 years old. The man lied on the bed. His eyes were opened but his face didn’t show any kind of expression. There are many tubes connected to his body. Infusion set, catheter, and there’s even a machine that detected his pulses.
Tears swelled up on the girl’s eyes but she then smiled. “Let me fix this for you.” She walked beside the infusion set and tinkered with it a bit.
“You see, today in school-“ She talked to him even though she knew that he couldn’t reply. But she still smile dand continued.
After a few hours, she looked at her watch. “Well then, I’m going home for now. See you tomorrow, Taka.” The girl leaned a bit and kissed his cheek. “I love you. Sweet dreams.”
After the girl left, a drop of tear fell from the boy’s eye.

The girl’s name is Mia. She’s the boy called Taka’s childhood friend, neighbour, and fiancée.

5 years ago, an unexpected accident happened.
Taka was a smart boy, and a handsome one at that. He was famous among the girls in his college. And this made Mia jealous. She ran away from home because of this and when Taka looked all around for her, a car crashed and hit him.
The doctors saved his life, but he turned into a vegetable state. He could hear and see but he couldn’t move his body. He couldn’t even talk. Mia visited him everyday since then to take care of him and talk to him.

“Sob... Hic, sob.” Mia cried on her pillow. She always do this ever since that accident. But that night, something different happened. A faint light appeared beside her.
“W- Wha-“ The girl looked terrified. But then, faint light spoke to her.

“Nothing but cry for the past five years. Even I who already give up on humans is taking a pity on you, girl.”
“Who are you?”
“Some called me god, some called me angel, some called me fairy. A fuckin’ fairy. I mean, this deep, gentle, Morgan Freeman-like voice, and they called me fairy?! Humans...”
“So you’re god?”
“Well, yeah. I’m not a pizza delivery guy at least.”

He doesn’t look like a god at all thought the girl. But for now, she’ll believe in anything.

“If you’re a god then please! Please save Taka! I’ll do anything!”
“Alright, but give me something equal. Equality is nice after all. I love equality. Balance. You humans ruined that, but at least you guys were fun to watch.”
“What do you want?”
“There was one time this guy with funny moustache wearing a uniform with a logo that looked like windwill came to me once. His house was surrounded by the enemy. He asked me for immortality and such then I said that I’ll give him that but in exchange he’ll be turned into a vegetable state just like your boyfriend. He got angry and tried to shoot me but then I made him shoot his own head. Haha, his moustache was funny.”
“I don’t care! Just what do you want?”
“Well, I want an interesting and fun thing to happen. I’ll change the flow of time and event a bit. You’ll still remember all of these, and still love that veggie boy. But his memory will be altered. I think he’ll still love you but... Ah, I don’t want to spoiler. The readers will get mad.”
“What readers?”
“Ignore that. So, deal or not?”
“As long as you can save him, then yes.”

The sound of snapped finger came from the light.

“Wah!” Mia woke up in surprise.
“So that’s just a dream after all....” Mia stepped out of his room. And Taka stood there. Smiled to her. “Hey Mia, morning. You’re a sleepy head like usual.”
“T- Taka... It’s really you?”
“Hrm? Of course this is me. You’re still half asleep?”
“Taka! Taka!” Mia hugged him tightly. She never thought that her wish will ever comes true. But here’s Taka, stoodin front of her.
“Geez.” Taka patted her head. “What a troublesome sister you are, Mia. I already told you many times to call me big brother.”
She froze. Sister? What Sister? The question twirled around in her head.
“Well then, I’m going down first. Go change your clothes.” Taka let her go and went downstairs. Mia walked into her room and a sinister snicker can be heard in her room. “Haha! Interesting right? I healed him just as you wish but in exchange, he’s your blood related brother now! Hahahahahah!!!” A rabbit-shaped stuffed doll laughed his ass off while flying all over the room.
“You’re the god from back then?”
“Hell yes! Yes I am!”
“You’re more of a demon than a god...”
“Actually, demon is also one of the nickname I got from you humans. I think it was around that time when I shaped myself as a goat--”
“SHUT UP!” Mia took the stuffed doll and threw it to the wall.

“Ouch~ That hurts—NOT!” the stuffed doll stood and then slipped into Mia’s bag. “Now, now, go eat your breakfast. Something more interesting will happen~”
“Whatever you say, Rabby.”
“Rabby?”
“That’s the name I gave to that stuffed doll. Rabby.”
“Seriously girl. Men in the past gave me cool names such as Zeus, Odin, Yahweh, but now Rabby? Seriously?”
“Let’s go Rabby.”
“Okay...”

Mia went downstairs to see Taka, who became her brother. But another girl sat beside him. She’s even younger than Mia. Her name is Alisa, and she should be Taka’s real younger sister but then...

“Hey, Mia-chan, my sister in-law, come here, come here.”
“Wait- What- what-“

Mia ran into the restroom. Grabbed into her hair while sobbing.
“See? Something interesting happened, no?”
“You!! YOU!!”

Then the door opened. Alisa stood in front of the door. No, she didn’t actually stand. Instead, she sat on a wheelchair.
“Hello there, Mia-neesan. How do you do?”
“No, it’s nothing. I just got a stomachache—“
“Really? It’s just a stomachache? It’s not because I stole Taka-niichan from you?”

Mia startled. Alisa then started to giggle. She looked into the stuffed doll. “Hello, God. So you’re actually real. I’m really surprised.”
“Actually, my name is Rabby. For now.”
“Then- Then- Both of you-“
“Yup, we’re accomplices” Alisa laughed.

Mia glared at Rabby but then it started to laugh as well. “This screwed up girl over here, didn’t ask me to heal her brother. She actually had a severe brother complex, and all she wanted is to become her brother’s girlfriend. I met her first”

Rabby jumped out from the bag. “And well, like I said, I love equality. If she became her brother’s girlfriend, then her brother won’t have any little sister. It would deviate too much from reality. And thus, I thought I should try to convince you, the brother’s real girlfriend, to make a wish.”

Rabby then pointed into the wheelchair. “In exchange of that though, she also got the brother’s wound. But then if she turned into the same vegetable state as her brother, then she can’t really become his girlfriend. So I instead took her ability to walk, took her left eye’s ability to see, I also took 1 kidney. I also gave her an asthma. Now it’s almost equal so I can look over that.”

“If- If- If something like this would happen! I’d rather—“
“What? You wanted to reset this all? No can do. I can grant your wish in another way though.”
Alisa shouted, “NO! I’m happy like this. At least I can become Onii-chan’s girlfriend!”
“Well, so she said.”
“Then... Take something from me. Grant my wish. Make me Taka’s girlfriend again!”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“NOOOOOOOOOO!!!” Alisa shouted and tried to grab Rabby but it jumped away and she missed.

The world changed again.
Mia opened her eyes. She lied on a bed. She tried to call on Rabby. But her body couldn’t move. She couldn’t even speak.

Taka stood beside her.
“Ah, did I wake you up? Sorry.”

Was everything just a dream? So she’s the one who actually got in and accident and in a vegetable state now?

“I’ll be leaving now, okay? See you tomorrow.”
Taka went out of the door.

Someone else went in. It’s Alisa, with Rabby on her hand.
“World actually change. Taka-nii is now your boyfriend. But you know what? I’m no longer Taka-nii’s sister. I’m your little sister now.”
“That’s just how it is.” Rabby jumped and danced.

“So, if you die now. I can go ahead and embraced Taka-nii. We’re sisters now, so I’m sure he will receive my love after you die.”

Mia tried to shout but she can’t. “Ah, ah, ah, you can’t even. How pitiful. Hyahahahah!” Rabby laughed.

Alisa injected some kind of drugs into Mia’s infus set.
“Bye-bye, Onee-chan.”

Mia’s heart stopped.

But, Taka went in the room. He had a cold face.

“Eh? Taka-nii? What are you—“
Suddenly Alisa felt some kind of pain. She grabbed into her chest, then in an agonizing look, she died.

“How is it? Your wish is granted.”
“So this is it?.”
“Yup.”

Rabby then jumped into Taka’s shoulder.
“The one who called for me first is you. You wished so much for a healthy body even after all these years! You did nothing but pray. That was interesting so hell, I thought I gotta help this boy. And you made this cruel plan, sacrificing your little sister and girlfriend like that!”
“Yeah, but it needs to be done.”

Taka caressed both Alisa’s and Mia’s hair.
“Both of you always said this to me when I was still in my vegetable state so let me say this to you guys for your help...”


“Sweet dreams.”

The story itself comes across as a bit unrefined, but I like how it builds up between the two girls increasingly going to greater lengths to get the guy only to have him throw them both under the bus.
