WIP - Logs From Somewhere

When was the day that I no longer looked at the stars in the skies and wondered what was beyond? When was it that I no longer stood doe-eyed in amazement of what they found in the deep recesses of space?

For the entire few millenia that humanity has existed, we have always sought after inspiration from the stars; whether it be our deities, jolts of inspiration, actual sparks to breath life into our machines, or even somewhere to look in our times of desperation. Even still- after we've found out about what lies in store for us on other worlds, we live out our own lives on Earth- trying as best as we can. On the other hand, we live out our lives in the most peculiar and peninsular fashion. For a race that has been always advancing forward, its odd that we, as individuals, never focus on the grand destiny of humanity.

In fact, if other races did exist, would they not wonder how such a planet like Earth could actually make it to the stars without destroying each other in the process? All of these things I wondered as my hand hovered over the red END CALL sign.

It took me a minute to process what had just happened. It felt almost like a scaled-up version of the Hunger Games, but without the whole killing each other part. I looked down to see what I had mindlessly copied down and tried to register that I would be no longer of this world.

The note read: Kennedy Space Center, July 28th, 2020. 10 PM.

I can only hope that my family and friends are getting this. I wanted to try to explain how I'm feeling ever since I said goodbye to all of you. A lot of you are confused and most of you don't understand why I'm doing this. I'm going to explain over time so please bear with me. For now, we're going into isolation training to simulate what would happen on the journey there.
