I was thinking about attending, but I need a damn good reason to since it's a 7 hour drive. Anyone going?

I'd go to these conventions if they weren't so far away from where I live. Well, that's just an excuse. I'd go if I had money no matter where they were.

Well we've got a hotel room booked, but we're already putting about eight people in it, so I can't exactly offer room...

@Frankblack: Well, I've attended three cons, though they've all been fairly small. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed at the size of what I understand otakon to be. Still, I guess some general things will still apply. Eat lots of sugar and caffeine to keep you going (try to fit real food in there somewhere), don't expect to sleep much (unless you really want to), expect lots of random shit to go down, and just enjoy it. And possibly the most important thing to do from a realistic perspective is to fucking set yourself a budget... I'm serious. If you enter the win that is the dealers room with no firm resolution of what you plan to spend, it can get way out of hand. If you're as weak willed and easily tempted as I am anyway :D (is setting low budget this year due to RL :( )

I'll be there, driving up up from North Carolina. We're staying at the Hyatt Regency, but unfortunately we have a pretty full room docket too (plus a few people wanting in if anybody cancels, heh)

Hit up the Otakon message boards, there are always people looking for more people to share room cost with (especially as you get closer to con time and people cancel).
