Since anime is a more of a visual media then anything, is it possible for a born-blind person to have a preference to anime? Could they like the stories of anime or do they have to see it to like it?

Yeah I dont know if this belongs here but I don't really know. I suppose it's possible but there are so many different kinds of stories. I don't think they would ever even watch anime in the first place they can't see.

Instead, I think one would like individual shows, anime or real people, based on things outside of sight. Things like, sound, plot, and so on.

if you can't see, then anime is just another story, i guess. it'll be like a novel, maybe...so it is possible, although i wouldnt call that anime anymore.

Listening to anime is way different than watching anime. The experience would be totally different. You won't be able to see their emotions and actions.
How they look like would be based on how you build them through listening, which makes it different for every blind folk.

I'm not sure about the answer to your question, but I know that if I went blind, that'd probably be it for my anime-watching days, since I don't know Japanese. Plus, a lot of action can only be seen. Unless someone is with me and telling me what happens ("Alright, the robot flew across the screen, now it's taking out its beam saber . . ."), it'd just be confusing, even if it was an English dub.
Then again, I sort of feel like if I went blind, that'd be the end of my life. There's not really anything I do that doesn't involve being able to see. So, I might not be the best person to talk about being blind.

This is more or less what I was thinking. If I knew Japanese, then I'd probably be able to still follow and enjoy something intellectual, like Ghost in the Shell or Haibane Renmei or something. Even with that, there are just some visual things that would be completely lost to me. I'm not sure how I'd feel about that.
Don't even mention watching anime with dubs. I'd end up picturing Wendee Lee as EVERY female anime character and poke my eardrums out with an ice pick. Then I'd be blind AND deaf...
