Anime and Manga Protagonist Nowadays

Is it just me or the male MC of animes and mangas are getting lamer and lamer?
I mean, wtf? Not going to the front line and protected by his girls, and trounced by the opponent then a girl save him, that's TOTALLY lame.

What exactly did you watch? And if you're really pissed with protagonists these days, re-watch an old series with a better hero, or find something new with a female MC.

Just re-watching older series would be pointless, as that means there will be no development towards the new generation.

Which series are evident with that? Not all newer series are like that e.g. Steins;Gate, which was a work of genius.

And what's wrong with a guy being protected by a girl? Those girls are badass.

I think I'm more of person who like a man who protects his girl(s), not the other way around. Guess you can call me and old-minded person from that.

And it applies on a lot of *NEW mangas.

Hm... let me rephrase it, it's not only to protect but also it feels like the MCs has gotten dumber and dumber everytime.
VN are excluded, they usually produce amazing protag.

I still see some past protags as horribly thick dumbshits.

Mangas/Animes that have limp-Dick-Retards for main characters usually follow a certain book...

I'm more worried about a bad character development, rather than a lame character that doesn't suit your taste.

It also depends on the genre of that anime.
-If it's a harem comedy anime, putting in a "not lame" character is the same as making a bad hentai. Imagine Rito from To-Love-ru as a "womanizer", it's not going to be funny. One of the best examples is Negi from Negima.

-If it's a shonen battle anime, they're mostly idealist, and they won't change their ideals. So, the only thing lame at the start is their power level. Look at Goku, the only thing that developed is his power level.

A Passive Main character doesn't always means their lame.
Kokutou from KnK, is one of the main exmaples. You don't see him battle monsters or psychopaths, But his main role is to be Shiki's Mental Support. without him, Shiki won't develop into the Shiki we all know.

So, rather than trying to "generalize" characters , just stick to the genre you know that probably won't have "lame" characters.

And seriously why can't people see the other side of their lameness.
-Yuki Rito is Spinless guy, but he's also known for his Kindness.
-Shirou is a stupid idealist, but with his ideals he made everyone happy.
-Negi is a naive kid, but his straightforward naivete makes most his opponents respect his strength.

i know wat you mean in mirai nikki manga the protagonist was protected by a girl during half the series.

Mayo Chiki had a Male MC who could take more than a few punches although it was mostly girls saving his ass plus he had a phobia of them (chicken shit) I guess you are right but oh well trends come and go just wait I'm sure in a couple years the Male lead protagonist formula will change again.

Probably not going to happen because of the genres Like I said in my post.

If you're looking for Protagonist that you "like", better stay away from Love comedy genres.

I read/watch love comedies to see girls, I don't want to spend all my attention just for the male protagonist.
