Anime Based Around Music

So I just wanted to throw this thread out here for some opinions,

Does anyone who plays an instrument well and understands the time it takes to become good just get annoyed beyond belief when in an anime a person just picks up something and BAM! they are just instantly good.

I understand that it is only an "anime" but seriously I just get so pissed when I see someone pick up the guitar and become beyond good in 2 days. It takes a freaking year or so to even come close to that level of playing. Most of the time I break out into tears and have to be comforted by my freshly polished Gibson X-plorer.

Well you could give them some background, like for me I will remain an pretty good player until I join a band, only when you join a band do you become great. So you could do something like that. Show the characters making that jump.

I either haven't seen a lot of those or just haven't thought of it too much. But nah, it doesn't annoy me any more than other unrealistic things in anime or manga. It's same with the fighting centered series, someone just start kicking ass without any real practice.

Well if it is just one fight adrenalin could account for that

Do you happen to know Beck? If I remember correctly, it goes into nice detail about the main character practiced.

yes, Beck is one of the most logical musical anime, that really shows the struggle to become a great band.

while other musical animes tend to be magical and somewhat logic twisting.

Hino Kahoko was actually a normal student who gets a magical Violin and then transfers to the musical section of the school. she ends up practicing on her own, and try to not rely on her magical violin.

Nodame Cantabile was ok in my books because they were already playing those instruments for such a long time and It showed them finally getting serious about playing and improving.

It never annoyed me.

But I do get annoyed if I remember a certain cancellation of a certain manga about Dancing and Fighting

Yeah, it annoys me a bit. But I guess it's for plot purposes. I haven't seen many music based animes. Probably should watch some later...

Im pretty sure the main character in Beck wanted to learn guitar so he was not as good as the other members of the band.
But I can see where your coming from with Them learning in a few days.

I just wanted to know is there any anime based around metal music? I know its a longshot I just thought I'd ask.

I know two. Detroit Metal City, which I absolutely recommend. And Metalocalypse, which I haven't tried yet.

Well metalocalypse I would not categorize as anime its just a cartoon.

Try looking at BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad. It's pretty good show.
