I understand where you're coming from,
but what do you expect from the beginning may I ask? Scratch that, I shouldn't ask such a thing. And as for your little rant, I do understand that some parts are definitely questionable especially since this is just the first episode. As much as I want to counter-argue against your rant, I'll learn to keep my jimmies unrustled since I've already read the manga of this beforehand so I understand your confusion assuming that you haven't read either the LN or the manga.
The opening greatly reminded me of an opening sequence to a Armor Core game, which lead to an excited and very optimistic disposition for me. An army was fighting against massive monsters, amongst a ruin city, crash landing in the midst of an heavily occupied shelter filled with people seeming of poor health and environment.
-With the army, I expected something along a military/armed citizen backdrop.
-With the monsters, a organized counter militia struggling to defend from them.
-With the destruction, a greatly prolonged battle preceding the intro.
-With the poverty, a type of, "I haven't been able to contact the next city over for a week now" struggle for survival.
-The landing of the monster in the middle of the shelter, had me expecting a strong undertone of the mortality of humans.
-The protagonist quoting his fathers words... well.. I didn't think anything particular about it.
I realize I was being overly bitter... I suppose it's due to the fact that, I was hoping for something different and deeper on top of my newly established expectations, but it turned into the type of series, with elements, I've seen so many times that it is starting to get on my bad side.
-Fighting loli reminding me of to many series to count.
-The step sibling scenario, seems to closely match Kure-nai, and I don't expect to enjoy this series as much.
-Underage protagonist that doesn't act in any manner that would afford his position, too many series to list.
-Despite his gun and training, flashy martial art sequences favored over any of the more logical approaches in hostile environments. (I wouldn't have a problem with, if more series tried approaching this more seriously).
-The "poverty" cliche, that I really don't expect to have an effect on the characters dept once again.
-A no one but Main, and a few more insignificant others, by comparison, can fight the bad guys.
My heighten expectations and desire met with something I need a bit of patients to watch, caused a huge upset for me... Writing this out, I see that, I still stand by my previous stated opinions, but expecting everything to be "top quality" (for example Blood+) and becoming upset and bitter over it not being, is childish. I have no intention of taking away others enjoyment, I just wanted to vent those feelings.
I can guess a few of the counter argument...
-The fighting style is more powerful than his gun against humans.
-Only loli can craft the bullets.
-A loli has to choose a companion.
-Their all girls because only women can give birth.
-There are government contracted loli's, but won't be revealed till much later on.
-Protag, out of guilt, wants loli to experience a normal Japanese school life.
-There are more people working for their office, still don't think this justifies the office tho.
-The purple stuff really doesn't taste good.
-Road blocks on the working bridges... but that being the case, what was the meaning of him going their there, then to the end of the bridge, for them to then the "zoom out". I understand the character did that for the audience, but other than introducing the loli's and backdrop, but was their there any significance outside of it that, was the "wall" metaphor not really there and was I am reading too much into it?
If you want to spoil or pm me the answers your holding back on, go ahead, I expect this series to be 13 episodes, so I assume it will gloss over the beginning of the series main story, and as long as it's not the end of the VN.
