And there is no WHEN. Nobody can explain it to you properly - you'll just have to watch the ending. If you already seen it and are debating if it ever did happen, then yes it did happen and it happened right when you said it happened. (that is perhaps the most confusing thing I ever typed.)

[EDIT] No one posted about Higurashi?

Death is too much of a common occurrence in Higurashi but the first one was awesome because it caught everyone off guard. After that you start to become immune to it once you understand how the story is going. Deaths in anime are only really effective once you are able to understand and identify with the character to the point of as if they were like your best friend. I had a problem with most of Higurashi's characters because they were just too weird and didn't seem real.

Ah, I see. I haven't seen the series, but I heard there were a lot of killing in it...
