My thought exactly. If he died here, the fortune-telling in the previous eps will be meaningless (lol). And it's a good strategy to get another 'Chaika' to replace that Layla (Vivi is the one in this case... or maybe I'm just wrong).

Why is Frederika this amazing? I thought she was dead for good when they showed the body. Vivi being another chaika was a surprise. When Toru was offered a dragoon chevalier position, I thought it would involve kissing Frederika just for romantic comedy. It was quite a bit of foreshadowing to have Toru think then decide to wait on making a decision. Best adventure story of the season. Looking forward to the 2nd split cour this fall.

Vivi turning was the highlight.
Last episode was amazing, except that killing off the bad guys was way too easy.
Can't wait 'till second season.

Though I never expect that a mini Frederica would pop out from that body. 10/10 would HNNNNNNNNNNGGG again. Also, I could say that this episode gets me a little teary at the end when Layla and Ricardo were about to die (I just can't handle watching people die sometimes, especially if it was this intimate, even though they did a lot of fucked up things). And Gilette may be saved by Guy during that attack, though it was shocking when Vivi suddenly transformed into Chaika.

Layla and Ricardo death was upsetting for me... They find a meaningful and fulfilling death in each others embrace, yet for the thousands of victims who died in horrible and excruciating ways, torn from their loved ones, and still some suffering in those cold, dark, rotting walls...

But what else can I expect... Ones a young boy and the other is a loli... so of course they wouldn't kill them in an excruciating manner.

Touma's lure of Ricardo into a false state of security to finish him in a clean and decisive manner was nice.

But the death of those 2 are stuck in my head... I'll end up remembering this series for that ending note, as that left the biggest impression out of the ending episode, for me. Now I'll have to watch season 2 to change my disposition regarding the series.

Side note... I'd love to understand what exactly is Chaika Trabant thinking, does she really think so little of herself that she's ok with being manipulated or does she have so little will of her own in regards towards collecting the pieces. I don't agree with Layla's means, but I do agree with her premise (found her to be the most human of all the introduced Chaika's so far).

Also, side question, I thought Chaika's were born with the look, I mean, Layla started out with the white hair first, before she was tasked with the mission of collecting, yet Vivi turns.

Also, curious as how Layla could remember who she was, yet Chaika Trabant couldn't, I am assuming the "lost memory" through the use of the machine will play a role, but she also had false memories. Layla didn't seem like she had any, at the very least, without the "lost memories" she still remembered the role as a puppet that she was given... Trabant just so very conveniently lost all the significant memories? hmm...

The slain merchants from Toru's(main character's name is Toru btw) flashback included women and children, Layla is not a loli, Layla probably drowned-her tongue will swell, skin will turn purple bloat to 1.5 it's size and her body will fall apart like tissue paper and Ricardo bled to death from being stabbed in the liver a very large conduit for cycling nutrients through blood. To be frank he should have been screaming, very loudly.

I am under the strong impression that Chaikas are not born but made. This might mean that the process of becoming a Chaika includes losing your previous memories so the Chaikas are under the impression that they were always that way. Vivi may have been a Chaika all along but found some way to reverse the process, Gil's kidnapping by Guy somehow caused a relapse.

None of the, other than the (forget her name) one set up to die in the first place, were on name basis. Only appeared for the sake of that scene.

Not so much the means by how they die, but the conditions of their death. And while they're deaths may have been painful they were quicker than an hour or so. Considering how it was possible to survive Ricardo's experiments, I can hardly imagine those girls/women suffered a remotely quick death.

Layla never seemed to believe she was a (original) Chaika in the first place though. The idea that their made (I'm assuming you mean like a test tube laboratory "made"), released into the world, to randomly have the demon (or dragon, forgot how it looked) alter them into collectors, after having them lived individual lives, and have their memories modified, seems like a big hassle. I know theirs still a lot of answers to be given, but as is, I find it confusing.

One of a loli's distinguishing features is prepubescence(correct me if I'm wrong), by the age of 14 one begins puberty. Although Chaika Trabant is confirmed 14, it would be wrong to assume Layla is younger just from appearance especially considering how magic like Fredrica's ability to change forms exists. I would like to avoid talking about lolis on a serious note, threads like those tend to get locked and people would be unhappy if this one would suffer the same fate.

Ending felt a bit rushed though, I understand it but... Could have been longer.

Going to miss Chaika though, she speaks so awesomely.
