As much of a introvert as Hakuya is, he went out of his way to inconvenience her and her family for the opportunity that the show revolves around. Nothing establishes, why he stops pushing there. He wanted romantic development, or so the engagement suggest, so his lack of pushing, for me, after such a huge push, got to me as a huge contradiction.
An understandable perspective to have. In all honesty, you're correct in that view. I see it as something easily forgiven though. Why? Because the engagement/living together is part of the premise. And premises are dumb, dumb, dumb. I can't name a single piece of media that has a premise that couldn't be picked apart. And well... when you pick apart a premise, the entire story just sort of collapses.
"Premises are dumb..." I disagree, but I think this is a matter of opinion, as well, that all stories can be broken down based on premise, is another point where I disagree. I can think of quite a few stories, who I thought had amazing premises. Some of which were in fact "stupid", but not due to the author, but due to the stupidity of sentient beings within the world established. The same kind of stupidity that creates conflict in the real world.
If I were to derive the conclusion, that the premise of this story is stupid, it would be fault of the author, for the author gives no reason, within the story itself, to make it any bit logical outside of his/her desire's. Since the story completely revolved around this premise, along with a lot of directionless fanservice, which I could forgive if the premise wasn't a fixated "just because", but it isn't, which sets up to a disappointing conclusion that feels, for me, more-or-less like, "I just watched a, lacking, "love story" that ended before the "love" began".
But this is coming off quite critical sounding, honestly, I have a much harsher opinion of most of the new series than I had for this series. I didn't have to put any effort into finishing this series, which is something I consider amazing, as of late.
