Adapted from the manga, written by Tsukuda Yuto, Shokugeki jumps off the pages into a beautifully drawn anime.
Yukihira Soma has a dream of continuing the Yukihira family restaurant and surpassing his father the incredibly renown chef, Yukihira Jouichirou's skills over the range. Just when Soma graduates and was thinking of working full-time in the family shop his father closes it temporarily in order to go cook in America.
Left with no choice Soma must attend Tootsuki Academy, a super elite cooking school with a less-than-10% graduating class. Where he will meet the students with exceptional talent such as the "Elite 10", and the "Meat Mistress" Ikumi. Will he survive this turbulent course? Or will he fall like the rest?

Anyways, this is currently one of my favorite ongoing mangas, it combines comedy with moments of seriousness and ties it beautifully with artwork to really get you all pumped up. It looks like JC Studio is doing a good-job capturing the artwork! Really excited for this!
The artwork drew me in and the story seems to be interesting enough for me to keep following this series as TOSH is one of my favourite doujin artists after all. That and Tadokoro is just mind-numbingly cute.
Really great first episode. Music is good, and the animation is flawless.
Tons of service, while maintaining that serious air when it matters. This show is gonna be great.
Didn't we have a food/fanservice anime last season? This one is just way over the top and the foodgasms are so childish I had a difficult time slugging through the end. I doubt it will tone it down seeing as the mangaka is a hentai artist.
Inb4 auuuuuuuugh you hate fanservice. There's a right way to do it y'know.
The MC is a bland 'I wanna surpass my senpai father and be the best cook there ever was'.
I was expecting Iron Chef, but got this but with food.

I suggest giving it a few eps, if it holds true to the manga, it's pretty much like a combat shounen with ero/fan service sprinkled in sparsely in the later stages but focuses mainly on the battle aspects.
Like Fighting Foodons for a "mature" audience

Personally, I liked it, and I am ready for more.
That's what a lot of manga readers said on /a/. I don't think I'll continue. I'm sorry, but when the bodyguards and NotYozora ripped their clothes off and came over food (I thought Koufuku Graffiti was silly, this is worse) I shook my head and stopped watching. I've also heard that there are more 'creative' ways they'll throw foodgasms into it as well later. Have fun, Book.
I can handle this level of over the top, and I love cooking in general, so I'll happily keep up with it. I'm not sure what to expect beyond ridiculousness and food porn, but I'm happy with those things I guess.
First episode was just weird. If he can already make people basically orgasm when they eat him food then only thing he needs to learn is how to make other meals. It could be good but we will see.

I laughed so hard at the idiocy of that scene too. Just imagining people drawing storyboards and then painstakingly animating that sequence and then voice acting. The level of coordination and effort to make that insanity a reality is confusing to appreciate.
I'm more on board with the show though. I like Toriko and their reactions to food are generally just as insane as they are in this show. With the end of Naruto and the obvious return to hiatus of HxH I have a gap in my never-ending shounen series lineup.
I definitely gonna check this anime and manga out! I am restaurant cook too and it should be good reason to check this show out! This looks very great and interesting. Maybe I buy few manga of this series and we'll see where it leads... This will be my favorite series. :D
This is a hard anime to judge. At times it has been good visuals and characters, but then other times just feels like it is trying to go too over the top. I keep watching hoping there will be the one episode I really love, but just hasn't happened yet and not sure it will even though i think it is getting 2 seasons...

I really really really like this anime. I've been resisting the urge to just read ahead in the manga like I often do with anime I like. I love shows where the protagonist starts off completely competent but still has realistic room for growth that doesn't just involve discovering mcguffins to transform him. The balance between the idiocy of the foodgasms and silly character archetypes and such also make it interesting for me. I'm glad that despite being super silly it's not as god awful as something like High School of the Dead in terms of the over the top fanservice (I mean, panty shots while someone is being gruesomely murdered by a zombie doesn't feel very self-aware).
shokugeki has become one of my favorite anime. I love all the characters and the animation is beautiful. When the show finishes its season, i know ill be continuing and start reading the manga I really owe Bookie for telling me about it.
