Well, there's Hanamaru Kindergarten about a man who is a kindergarten teacher. Azumanga Daioh has a kid character that is part of the main group. Yotsuba&! is also good about a girl who just has adventures. Yostsuba is made by the same guy who created Azumanga Daioh.

Would Shugo Chara! be applicable here? Cardcaptor Sakura is the classic choice, but I'm sure you've seen/heard of it.

Bakemonogatari is also an option. I haven't actually seen Darker than Black but there is a girl involved in the story...I think
