I have never heard of the manga entitled "Ateya no Tsubaki" until my friend bought a copy of the first volume as a gift. After browsing through it, I am impressed by its beautiful artwork and hentai scenes, but at the same time, disturbed by some of its gory scenes.
The storyline of "Ateya no Tsubaki" revolves around Housen, a painter who specialises in erotic arts, during the Edo period. According to the panels I have seen, he suffers from erectile dysfunction. During the course of his journeys, Housen meets Tsubaki, the main female protagonist, and along the way, both of them encounter situations which involve murder, mystery, rape, supernatural and the occult.
5 volumes of the tankoubon have been published so far, and each particular arc spans a few chapters. Although the guest characters are usually killed off due to certain circumstances, there are also storylines in which happy endings prevail. I doubt many chapters have been translated, but the artwork of Ateya no Tsubaki is not to be missed.
