Backing up your animes

I need to buy a good external HD. There is one in the house but it's shared and doesn't have a lot of memory. My PC is 2TB but it's filling up fast, so I need to buy a big external HD, which I've been planning to do for over a year but haven't gotten round to it.

I back up my animes occasionally. I definitely don't delete them no matter how bad they are. Animes aren't always being seeded so it's nice to just have it.

If I watched them via download, and really enjoyed the show, I tend to try to buy the boxset online or used at a local record store. I like to support the shows I love!

I used to back my anime up via CD-Rs and DVD-Rs, but I switch over to various external HDDs. My current 'main' HDD is a 2 TB one, though it's only about halfway full. This is due to most of my anime being .avi, .mpg, or .mp4 since I have a not-very-powerful netbook and I prefer to watch anime via xbox. I considered deleting series after I bought the DVDs/Blu-Rays legit, but, eh, never got around to it. ;)

The best place for keeping my anime is in my external HDD.
keeping it in another place like CD or DVD aren't comfortable for me.. i just feel unsafe cause they are easy to broke or usually after i keeping it some time my pc can't open it.

I keep everything on my external harddrive, but running out of space pretty quick. It's on 2 TB, but need to buy a new one within the next 2 months most likely :/

I back mine up in a safety deposit box not to far from my home, and I am the only one who has the key. Questionable you say, well how would you like a future son or daughter to find your KissxSis DVDs.

on topic : yes i collect my anime and i like to download the highest quality available so it uses up a lot of space. I store it on my internal hdd - a 2tb seagate - i've actually become paranoid of thunderstorms because a 500gb hitachi was the victim the last time i ignored the flashing lightnings during a rain shudder , but at least it was empty :) So yeah, until now i have 1.2tb(100 series) and planing to download like there's no tomorrow until i lose interest...
who would ever thought there are people that have 6tb or more - well that's a heritage worth passing down to your children IMHO! GRATS for the achievement VGuy!
BTW what happens if a couple of those hdds fail - do you have them backed up anywhere else or are those anime stored there forever gone???

I will occasionally put anime on CD's or DVD's. Although more recently I have been putting them on External Hard Drives now.
I do limit what I put on the drive though.

Good question as per failsafes. Nothing lasts forever and HDD's have a lifetime of about 5 years. To ensure the durability of the files, I don't rely on technology, but rather on my weeaboo network. I share my files with my friends who store them in different ways. I also upload my files to file servers which store them for a modest price. This way, in case any of the methods fails, there's always a back-up handy.

as far as i know file hosts are being taken down because of the piracy thing which means that they want to stop the spreading of the files hence filesonic and some other file hosts now allow only downloading your own files which means that they now function only as a personal storage server. Or I might be wrong and there are other/smaller companies which offer the same service which are too small (or in other countries) for the fbi to care to close them down...
@VGuy When you mean storing them to file servers you mean through the internet right? if so i'm guessing that you must have a pretty fast internet speed to upload 6tb and download it in a small period of time(a couple of days minimum)
holy shit! i did the calculations now and if you upload at 100Mbit/s you need almost 6 full days to upload 6tb and if you have the same download speed another 6 days to download it from the servers... - these are crazy speeds for me because as far as i know there isn't any ISP that offers more than 16Mbit/s download and 4Mbit/s upload where i live :P

I have three 2tb drives inside and a assortment of 5 1tb, 3 500gb and a hell of a bd/dvd. Which im going to give my server tower to a friend since im out of the hosting and seeding game with the intervention of feds to the net, and he needs it for his small business needs.
