I have no fucking clue what happened, but BT is probably the best torrenting sites there is out there, and hopefully this kind of thing won't happen again.

Afraid I've never used the site, so I can't say I'm really affected by the story one way or another, but it sounds like there is a lot more going on there than meets the eye. Although I wouldn't be surprised if it all came down to one big miscommunication at the end of all things.

Yeah I just found out about this today when I went to go download something. I think it was probably a miscommunication but it's not like I ever used the forums over there or anything so I have no idea what the personalities of any of those people are like. Personally I'll continue to use BakaBT because I never donated or ever cared about anyone there enough to give a crap about any power struggles that might have existed.

There's a whole lot of writing that I don't care to read, but I think I get the gist of it. People donated money, bills were paid, money was left over, dude pocketed the money, and now the site has a new name. Whatever.
Honestly, if people want to donate to a site, it's their business. They should know that their money may be used to pay for the site owner's Taco Bell. How can somebody in charge of a free site "misuse" donations?

All I see this as is a whole bunch of unnecessary drama. Oh well I guess this is how polotics work on the internet. Only difference to me is a change in my anime bookmarks folder.

I haven't used Boxtorrents in quite a long time. I used to be a pretty dedicated member, had a pretty good 4:1 seeding ratio, etc... Unfortunately, I didn't d/l anything for a while and they completely wiped out my membership, so all that work seeding for days on end was for nothing. Couldn't even get a new membership because they limited the number of sign ups. Good site that went south, as far as I'm concerned.
That's neither here nor there, though. As for the change over, I don't think either party was in the right. Boxtorrents isn't a corporation. Box was the one who started and was hosting it, so really there's nothing illegal about him pocketing some of the donation cash. He's not a non-profit organization. On the other hand, people sent him that money with the understanding that it was all going to be used to enhance the site which they all loved, so pocketing said money is a shitty thing to do.
On the THIRD hand (how many hands do I have?) what J and Malus did was just as shitty, if not shittier, and almost amounts to theft. There's no guarantee that they won't do exactly the same thing that Box did, either, with their own donations. I, for one, do not believe that the donation link in the top corner will EVER be disabled. I'm certain they'll give the same reasoning for that decision that Box did in his "explanation" post.
Noble facades and innocent seeming justification aside, this shit all boils down to one cause, Money. As usual. Why were Jarudin and Malus so interested in the donation money, anyway? Regardless of their standing as staff members, shouldn't they have been happy that Boxtorrents was in good standing and the bandwidth, servers, and domain were now being paid for without obnoxious ads? A little bit of money is all it takes for greed to set in. Next thing you know they're sending little probing messages to Box asking "so, what are you using the donation money on?" Not long afterward Jarudin writes his little script to spy on just how much money is flowing into Box's account (which is enough to sound the warning sirens in anyone's head, in my opinion.) My summation... everyone caught one another's hands in the cookie jar and the "winners" are the ones who acted first. The only losers in this will be the poor people who use the site and dedicate their time, donation money, and personal bandwidth. None of those guys in charge are innocent.

They already payed 360 or so for the initial server costs and have 360 or so left over. That happened all within 2 days time. It really makes me wonder how much they were really getting before all this.

Box stated that he never pocketed the money for his own personal use. He said after donations started to pick up he started to use the leftover money for seedboxes for faster downloads. He said at one point he had 8 dedicated servers for it with the leftovers.
So he used the money for the community, even though it wasn't directly for the sites bill.

After I read part of the gigantic post explaining what was happening with the site, I didn't even bother to find Box's explanation. But it wasn't because I thought Box was a douche or anything. I just didn't care. However he spent the money, it doesn't matter. The site's up, it's running fine, and that's that. Really, people should only donate money to a site if the owners or admins say that they need money.
Still, it is good to hear (according to Box, at least) that the money did something beneficial for the site.
