Lol, the words, "Jesus Yamato" come to mind. It's like Gundam all over again, except in a different timeline and using quartz instead of gundamium alloy. Rygart is voiced by Souichirou Houshi, the same seiyu who voiced Kira Yamato.
You know, I was expecting Kira-level antics, but instead we got something not much better than Evangelion episode 1 level. He didn't even destroy one Golem. I would like to say that piloting a mecha comes off as something complicated, but Broken Blade made me realize that once you experiment a little, you can have a good grasp of what to do. Case in point, Rygart discovers that moving the foot pedal moved a foot. Pretty obvious, right? Forwards = forwards, backwards = backwards. So it's actually not surprising now that a first timer could pilot a mecha (even assuming he had no Golem operating instructions when in military school).

The fact that the series starts almost parallel to Gundam SEED (falling into the cockpit in midst of a battle and learning to pilot it on the go) screams irony. The difference is that Rygart's a bumbling idiot with some luck whereas Kira's a born genius.
It's not irony, it's not a parallel ... it's a trope. Gundam, Macross, Vandread, Nadesico, and others all have the main character winding up in a situation where they pilot the series' mecha (not all of which are Gundam-level mecha). So really, Gundam SEED has nothing to do with it. Well, it does have that "we were best friends but now we're enemies" thing, but that didn't start with Gundam SEED either.

Nevertheless, having never read the manga, I was impressed with the first release. Crisp animation, good voice-acting, and good plot development. More character development will probably occur in the next release. Good OP/ED music too.
Agreed on all points. It was better than I expected going into it.

And I'd bang Queen Sigyn anyday.
Indeed, although that fanservice was random (see-through shirt? What's the point of even wearing that?) considering the rest of the time she is practically dressed antifanservice-style with the exception of the gap in her robe that reveals her short shorts. Also, I'm not liking the implied love triangle since I'm not a big fan of the "I married this guy I don't love even though I wasn't forced into it, and now I want to marry the other guy and they are best friends" scenario.
