I didn't enjoy it it may be due to how I read the description of the movie "Director Makoto Shinkai's heartfelt animated drama tells the tale of two close friends separated by chance, and reunited by determination" and how it actually ends.
Instead it ends with him being alone and miserable, Akari is marrying some one else though I don't understand why if she is still thinking of Takaki, and Kanae is miserable as well. They're adults now what is stopping them from seeing each other.
The story went a little too quick as well I was a bit confused at what was happening.
That was a pretty massive necrobump.
I agree with you from a critical perspective, but I feel that the director might have been aiming for a more emotional impact, rather than the rational aspect that you are proposing.
I could honestly care less about the story, cause the art and music were just so beautiful.
