Well, I think this is as good of time as any to introduce
this.
Every since Shirley died, all we have seen throughout this season was action, action, and more action/plot. But hardly any character development, in comparison to season one. R2 has become a type of TV show that would attract a younger audience.
When I read that this season was not as planned, I was saddened that Sunrise changed Code Geass timeslot to the 5PM, Sunday timeslot, which would restrict the drama that was the highlight of season one. And to think that the original plan was to end the season one with Episode 23 before they were forced to change the direction of the series. I wondered if the original plan was for Euphemia to not been geassed by accident? It would have been interesting if her plan to create the SAZ for the Japanese was successful. I would have loved the original plan for this series. This current version is going way too fast and had become product oriented to sell more toys. I have read that the Code Geass toys are not selling to expectations. However, the recent DVD sales has exceeded expectations.
I guess the executives figured that the series was good enough to join the Gundam Group, that's known for selling toys through Bandai. I am not even sure if the move to the Sunday timeslot was a smart move because what made this series great was clearly not the KMF. But the characters. They never did that with Ghost in a Shell: Stand Alone Complex, which lasted for 3 seasons. Why make Code Geass into another Gundam? Makes no sense to me.
Even when this series comes to a close, I hope that the creators are given the opportunity to re-tell the Code Geass saga in the form that it was meant to be. Even Evangelion was successful enough to allow the creators to rework the series in the form that they had planned from the begining. It's too bad that those greedy execs at Sunrise ruined this series because they felt that it deserved the Gundam treatment.
