Deathnote: L and Ryuzaki

I was at my local bookstore re-reading Deathnote, because it's awesome. I guess it's been like 4 or 5 years since the publication in America, and Viz has to reprint the volumes as you may know for different reasons.

Well, there was a recent change in the newer translations. When it first came out, L/Ryuzaki was always addressed as L. Now he is reffered to as Ryuzaki. It kind tipped me off a little.

Actucally, I'm doubting whether or not he was called L at all anymore in the beginning. What was he called originally in Japan? I think in the movie he's called Ryuzaki or something. Why change alternate the names?

I dunno, but maybe it's more formal to L considering the fact that he's such a great detective nya~

as far as i know, he called "eru" in japan (with katakana) or "L" in english.for "ryuzaki", he used that name after join japanese investigation team, right?

but i have always called him "L", even before the series came to america. So i think it was Originally "L"!

Well basically, he's known to the police as L. But in the manga, he requests that the investigation team call him Ryuzaki to hide the fact that he's looking for Kira.

As far as i know,ryuzaki is L false name that he introduced to lìght's father's investigation team
to avoid kira knowing his real name,right?

Well, yeah but a contradiction comes from General cobalt's statement that it was just a fake name. But I don't remember a time he said to just call him Ryuzaki when it first came out.

And as for it being a fake name, I can't remember if it really was his name. L never said that if it was or wasn't his name because from what I remember, they always called him L.

His real name is L Lawliet, but yes, he was originally called Ryuzaki most of the time in the manga, but I think they changed it to reflect the anime more.

When I read the manga they called him L till he got with the investigation team where he said to call him ( or I think he said it was his real name so they would trust him) Ryuzaki. And yeah his real name was L Lawliet which I thought was funny because of the "Lawl".

Oh...I was about to rip my hair out. I was all like, "WHAT?! MORE NAMES?! BLARRRG!"

Anyway, you're probably thinking that his name is Raito. Yeah, that's the Katakana version of Light. So if change the R to an L, it makes sense.

Actually L uses 3 names. He's also known as Eraldo Coil and Deneuve, which is his aliases for the second and third best detectives in the world.

Have you guys read the novel? His name is L Lawliet the Ryuzaki came from the novel. I wont spoil it but I sugest most of you guys read it.
