One person would only go to one of the two sites. However, in a group of ten people, five may go to Mangafox while the other five go to Mangahere. Does that make sense to you? With only one site, the owner would get five customers out of the ten, but with two sites, the owner would get all ten. That obviously increases revenue.



Wait, what? Is that a typo? Did you mean to say that mangafox doesn't support scanners? Or did you really mean that I somehow showed you that mangafox does support scanlators, because that wouldn't make any sense. Mangastream doesn't want their releases posted on sites like Mangafox, it clearly says so on their credits page, and Mangafox posts the releases regardless. That is a clear-cut example of disregarding the wishes of the scanlators.

As for mangahere, they do the exact same thing.

Whereas Batoto, which has been mentioned and praised several times in this thread, does not rehost Mangastream releases. They use the chapters released by other groups, no doubt because they truly do respect the wishes of scanlators.

I don't really care that much as long as I get my manga, unless it's already licensed then I buy it, because I'm a good fan.

I buy sometimes when I have the money, but I don't use those sites or anything similar unless it's the scanlator's own reader like Mangastream or Red Hawk Scans. I rather go directly to the scalator's site and download them there.

To be honest and fair, the volunteer staff at MF is a hardworking, respectful, scanlator's policy abiding team that does everything simply because they love manga and the online community it has. It's just the NOEZ staff members who are fucking pricks and greedy pigs who ignore any and every sense of etiquette in the community.. and that's really the heart of the matter: some assholes creating an entire business out of scanlator works who are simply trying to share the original mangas so that the mangaka gets more fans and popularity. Frankly, it's getting out of hand. The MF staff first gives every scanlator group the middle finger (http://forums.mangafox.com/threads/116382-Changed-Policy-Toward-Scanlation-Groups), then the MF staff who have been trying to keep up with the requests to remove manga have been stripped of all powers (http://forums.mangafox.com/threads/274319-ATTENTION-To-All-Scanlation-Groups!), and the NOEZ staff ignores any and all requests from scanlator sites (http://forums.mangafox.com/threads/249490-MangaStream).

Shit has got to go down and fast. Gotta get all scanlation groups to halt ALL projects until sites like MF, Mangahere, etc get shot in the face and acknowledge the power the scanlators actually have over their "business".

That wouldn't work. There'd be no reason for all scanlation groups to stop doing what they do, and even if the most popular groups stopped, the fans would still want to read their weekly manga, so smaller groups would replace them. A lot of people will read a shitty version of Naruto or Bleach instead of waiting an extra day for Mangastream to release their good version; imagine what would happen if Mangastream said that they were halting all of their projects.

I think the mods on Mangafox who were stripped of their powers should quit and leave the site. The NOEZ staff treats them like shit and doesn't care about them, so they shouldn't spend their time helping NOEZ out in any way. Of course, it is possible that NOEZ wouldn't care if the forums fell into disrepair and were completely unmoderated. Still, it's clear that NOEZ only cares about money (some of the mods even acknowledge this openly), so why stick with them?

I'm pretty sure not all the mangas people keep track of today (there are too many to count anymore, like the Big Three, Fairy Tail, Beelzebub, KNIM, Noblesse, HSD, TWGOK, Eden no Ori, Deadman Wonderland, Good Ending, Gamaran, Sun-Ken Rock, Freezing, Kaichou wa Maid-sama, Hajime no Ippo, Air Gear, and numerous countless others) will be picked up immediately or even at all considering the people who ACTUALLY want to do it are actually doing it right now. Sure, a few groups(mainly 1 person teams) would pick up a few mangas, but the point will be clearly thrown out there into the mass public of people in sites like MF. And would they even attempt to aid sites like MF after learning how they ignore scanlators, also run Mangahere, and are only simply in it for money and lots of it?

They will understand what the fuck is going on if all the scanlators atm halt all projects for a week, as everyone outside the loop will be confused and looking for info about it. And that's where it will actually begin. That's when everyone will understand how much power scanlators have over this fucking "business" these assholes like NOEZ created. How volunteer, FREE distribution of translated manga by scanlators controls their entire money making schemes and how they'll be forced to acknowledge scanlator policies, requests, etc. This is of course, considering more than 85% of scanlators even agree/organize well enough to do this.

And the MF staff are still in it for the community, whatever is left of it anyways. They still volunteer their time and effort to allow a decent community of manga lovers under a corrupt system. I really don't understand why though.

An hour later... re uploaded by more anon users. At this time we started to get pissed. So mods removed it again... NOW IS WHEN SHIT HIT THE FAN. TBH i personally dont care about anon's uploading it, but we had a policy with mangafox that certain people could upload our projects... Mods have to approve it before its uploaded so the fact that they let anon's upload it got our leader pissed.

Removing credit pages is probably the lowest thing ive seen mangareading sites do..

And not a single fuck was given that day by readers because no one gives shit about who translates what they read. Watermarking is only hurting yourself and it gives less exposure to the content by not allowing things to be uploaded to specific places. Now, sites that watermark themselves are just being dicks but there isn't much you can do about that.

Guess what, you didn't make the manga. Some guy in japan did. Way to be a self centered faggot who can't realize that you don't own what you just did and by enforcing such things like take downs and watermarks you are just as bad as those copyright faggots who don't want you to translate or upload works in the first place REGARDLESS of if it is available in your country or not.

And for the record, everything I do is out there to be messed with by the entire world with no restrictions what so ever. Claim it as your own, I don't care. Why should I? It is just better for everyone in the end.



People really need to understand that when you took up the job of doing scans or subbing or whatever you started a thankless job where people will steal your shit and do whatever they want with it. And guess what you actually just did the original Japanese creator?

What people really need to realize is that when you do this it isn't about you the scanner but instead the fans who read it. Do what is best and convenient for them. Realize what they want and cater to it to the fullest. If that includes using such sites then so be it. If anything you should be proud your work is getting so many views. That means its not incomprehensible to the point where it is unreadable. People are happy and so should you be.

PS: No one cares about credit pages. If they care enough they will check your website. If you don't have one then irc channel. If you don't have that then you are doing it wrong.

Let me ask one thing to you scanners that I never seem to have understood. Why is there a waiting period on uploads and what is going through your mind when you make them? Honestly I just see them as the stupidest thing to have ever come along in the world of translating. It is quite hilarious really.

I quite disagree here. Watermarking does not hurt yourself. It gives more exposure to your group as a scanlator and makes the readers more aware, as it is more evident and noticeable, being in each page. As a result, this may make more hardcore readers want releases faster, in the case of the mangareading sites abiding to waiting periods and takedowns, to go to the actual scanlation site and give them some appreciation, traffic, and read the latest chapters from there now.



You do realize that the full purpose and intent of scanlation is to help publicize and popularize unknown Japanese mangas to foreign readers so that they actually help support sales in their respective countries and help the mangakas actually start publishing the mangas in their regions. Hello? If it isn't available to your country, then how the fuck does it even get the attention to GET to your country. Given that a publisher or the actual mangaka contacts a scanlation group to stop translating and distributing their manga because they are going to start publishing it, they would almost 99% cease the free distribution of that manga and fully support the manga's sales.

I don't think the groups care that their works are being freely distributed on the internet without their permission. What they do care, is someone profiting off of it, and having multiple sites and sources of revenue (ads, merchandise, etc) to create a company off of it.

There are also many more reasons why scanlator groups hate sites like MF. For one, mangasites like MF are what hurt the mangakas, not the scanlators. Their sole goal is to make the mangas known, not to profit and create an entire business off this online manga community. Furthermore, sites like MF are taking scanlated work that is NOT their work and without the confirmation or permission of the groups, simply uploading the mangas because they need their daily $3,000+ revenue to upkeep their headquarters in New York and some other country. I agree, the manga itself is not your property or even right to think you can have it. But the translations are. They are the full intellectual property of the scanlators, and that is completely clear. I don't think the groups would give a fuck if MF is putting up raws. But the fact that MF and sites like MF put up their translated work, without permission and to create revenue, NOT POPULARIZE, is what's fucked up and angering the groups.



Again, going back. People who do these understand it's a thankless job. It's just nice to have someone say their appreciation. Humans are social beings.

It feels good to be thanked for giving the substance for which you are there for. What people, the "fans" (who are so dedicated they only read their manga online and don't give a shit about how they can read it asap), need to realize is that scanlators are in it for the mangaka. It's not to cater to some online selfish little kid tantrum of "WHERE IS THE NEXT CHAPTER? I WANT IT NOW" type of "fan". Like I said, given the situation, I'm pretty sure 99% would C&D if the mangaka or publishers who were going to start publishing said to stop releasing their mangas. Afterall, it is for the sake of getting it out there. With that achieved, their job is done, and THAT is what they are in it for. Not the handful of words of appreciation from visitors, not the publicity as a group, not money, not anything. Simply to put it out there. And you say "your work" when previously you state that it's the mangaka's. Even you're acknowledging that the translations themselves are the scanlator's.



Again, the translations are technically the group's work. There are actually, believe it or not, a number of people who go to the scanlator sites instead of mangareaders... And how would they know if there isn't a credit page? What if they're so stupid (like the average online manga fan) they don't know what mangaupdates.com is?

To be honest, even I don't know what waiting periods are for. I'm guessing it's so that more people bypass the business model that sites like MF is and go directly to the groups, not giving MF the money they so undeservingly earn.

But let me ask you this, is it justifiable that you can dismiss the actual suppliers who, you can say, created this entire online manga phenomenon with no rewards or money or fame or anything worthy and spit on their faces, while simply being indifferent to sites like MF who not only earn money, but run a business on it? They didn't ask for ANYTHING. And yet when they ask for a few comments or visits to their site for appreciation or for mangareading sites to respect simple little waiting periods they get blasted to hell with shit that degrades them from people with mindsets like you. It's just utterly and completely fucked up.
