Does Gainax have something against normal anime?

Yall obviously have no clue what Gainax has done over the two decades:

And that's just series only. They've done other films and OVAs on top of that. I don't think Gainax as a studio that goes against the norms. It just tries to make its own product line more unique. They've animated a couple of "NORMAL" series over the years, so there's no basis for singling out Gainax as an abnormal phenomenom. And most of those series listed above I've watched.

Mahoromatic and Abenoboshi were great anime.

And Mahoro started the set up for the "do anything ultimate maid" meme, since i've seen too many parodies of her with anything to do with maids and/or robots.

Seeing Nadia made me get all nostalgic and shit. God, I miss that show.

I think a better candidate for this may be BONES(mayyybeee)/SHAFT but maybe that's just me.

Gainax likes to sort of try out different stuff. Better to experiment than settle in with one particular genre and run it into the ground.

As for the topic, they probably just specialize in what they do. Other companies do the normal harems and stuff so it wouldn't be odd if Gainax was the same

GAINAX is just a bunch of otaku fans just like us and really know what fans want giant robots check, bad ass chick check, high school drama check, robots poping out of addolecent brain check, oh and bouncing boobs oh yeah double check!!!!!

Here is a little history about studio GAINAX. The studio was formed back in the 1980's as Daicon Films by university students Hideaki Anno, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Takami Akai, and Shinji Higuchi. GAINAX has become infamous for some significant production and budget problems for several notable series, and sometimes had to rely heavily on limited animation. GAINAX popularized the term and usage 'fanservice', and usally precise animation of a woman's chest bouncingbecame known as 'the GAINAX bounce' or 'gainaxing'.

but even like that they put a certain amount of weirdness to normal anime... well hanamaru youchien was pretty normal.

but in kare kano there was a episode with some kind of muppets.

Gainax is such a synonym for wtf-ness that I was shocked to learn that Dead Leaves was not a Gainax anime.
It was however directed by the same man who directed Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking (and worked on parts of Evangelion, FLCL and Diebuster), so that explains a lot.

I love Gainax for their weirdness. I wouldn't have it any other way.

They mostly create over the top animes which are either super humans, aliens or robots.

Now we got Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt.

Just let them be, better to see people trying other things besides the same old stuff.

Like the comic book stuff in America, some people still love the superhero stuff, while others like the horror and other great stories like The Sandman.
