I'm going to continue to watch this; I just want to see how more generic it can get.
Indeed. I seem to start an anime, and even though I know it will have either a sad ending that makes me hate it or an obscure ending that makes no sense at all, I continue to watch it to the end either way.
I quite enjoyed picking apart this anime in a review, which I will briefly recreate here.
So regardless of who I might offend or please with this post on the matter of Dragon Crisis, I must continue and write my rather brief review.
Just to be clear, I watched this anime during spring of 2011, just after the final episode had been subbed in English and placed on a streaming site.
Story/Plot: 3/10
The plot was very obscure even to the end, so the word 'generic' doesn't even do it justice. I wondered what was going to happen afterward, and then I realized that this anime was based on a light novel, so this 'craptacular work covered in mud' was likely created to promote people to buy and read the light novel in the first place.
The objects called the "Lost Precious" were never fully explained, nor was the "Breaker LV" system, from which I can only begin guessing is related to a character's power or potential power.
There is so much else I wish to pick apart, but I will save it for another day.
Character Appearances/Personalities: 1/10
I was so dissatisfied with the personalities of the characters that it was nearly unendurable to continue watching the series after episode one. I am a loyal otaku, and so I will watch and read any anime or manga I begin to finish, which is why even though I hate Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece with a divine wrath, I will follow them to the bitter and horrific end.
Back to Dragon Crisis, Ryuji was a carbon copy of the male lead from Elfen Lied (I cannot remember his name for the life of me), but with a more reserved personality, but even moreso, a dull sense of situation discretion. I also felt that this anime, even if it had been rewritten by a master author of manga and anime, could never make me laugh or cry, because only very deep and high-quality plots and characters can do that.
Also, I was enraged that Rose, the female lead, was also a carbon copy of 'Nyu' from Elfen Lied.
It seemed like, aside from the fact that this is about human-dragon relations and has nothing to do with vector-based psychic monsters evolved from humanity, it is essentially Elfen Lied 2.0, watered down to the max.
Also note that I did not enjoy Elfen Lied either - I would give it a 4/10 overall at best, and that's only if I am feeling like an extremely generous reviewer.
That being said, I despise whoever wrote the Light Novel after reading it, because it is essentially the same as the anime, only longer and without translation errors (It is in Japanese), and as such I give the author a -99/10 for originality.
Everything about this anime screams plagiarism to others in so many ways I can only begin by naming two anime which I dislike that this is a watered down copy of.
Elfen Lied and Tokko. It is like Tokko how, you ask? The male lead starts off as a very weak character, eventually gaining enough power to do whatever he must due, via plot convenience methods. Also, he is surrounded by a circle of people that want to take his love, and then he chooses the one relationship that is least likely to work out in the end.
In my humble opinion, stupidity of the author screams a legendary -999/10 for using the human brain to think of things that no one else has before. It's possible, but this author was far to lazy and uneducated to try, I believe.
...
That was not even half of my full review, but I guess I'll cut it off there. I don't have all the time in the world in the first place. I thank you all kindly for your time and if you manage to read this short story of a post, then I say, congratulations to you because you could possibly be one of the few readers who I might see as a dignified reader.
