Should I now officially declare it as my favorite anime of the spring season? What else can I say? How I've longed for something like this to show up. It has been awhile since I saw anything like this. It surely has eye-catching visuals alongside an intriguing "story" and a music score that's worth listening to, all in one anime (which is quite unusual nowadays). There's no doubt about its "seriousness" packed with a bit of cutesy humor, mystery, (action? - "running"), and romance that were all pretty much suggested from the start. Upon witnessing its first episode, I couldn't have asked for anything more. Heck, I'm even compelled on giving it(1st ep) a second watch; something that I've never done before. (I don't watch in repetition // no need to elaborate on that matter) - just consider it my style or preference.
I'm just gonna throw in some of my random thoughts for now...
Unfortunately, I have seen neither of the two aforementioned films namely Taxi Driver and The Bourne Identity. (insignificant anyway)
Not only did it have two fabulous musical themes, those themes came along two extraordinary, awesome, magnificent, praise worthy animation sequences that rather left me dazzled. Though I'm unfamiliar with how they're done, I'm quite aware that those things weren't exactly of anything new. That fact only made it most impressive esp in regards to the ED "papermation" sequence...... *speechless*
(here, just watch it!)
OASIS - Falling Down
School Food Punishment - Futuristic Imagination
Though it made me wonder, what's with the apple? If I'm going to answer my own question, it probably has got something to do with "Eden" - as its title suggests. So the real question is, does it really imply any significance or relation with the Bible's Book of Genesis: "Garden of Eden" ? It's probable (in a way I've yet to see) considering the manner, whoever this "Juiz" is, terminates communication (bids farewell).
Guess that's all for now... The "intellectual" part shall come later (once someone worth discussing it with shows up). I'm looking ahead of things(plot-wise) as usual, trying to figure out if everything's simply going accordingly to someone else's plan.
Seriously though, this baby don't disappoint. Awesome visuals, solid sound (need some more time for it to grow on me so it's 'just' solid for now) and excellent humor. And most of all - it's intriguing. Something so very, very rare in anime these days.
Might have had some initial issues with how easily the characters adapt to weird occurrences and accidents but those were gone before the ep ended. Especially since I recalled it's only meant to be 11 episode long. For shame ...
My only wish is that gg keeps subbing it (Desire sucks dead easter bunnies). Doesn't seem likely though judging from their current announcements ...
through all the animes i've ever watched, i've had 2 instant favs...(GTO 'n' Samurai Champloo)...and now...._.
at first glance, production quality definitely caps some eye-candies, op&ed are simply...stunning(heck, they look like fucking top-notch MADs...)...on top of that, I.G did a fantastic job utilizing the element of sound(fucking awesome soundtrack, i'ma dl if it comes out)...the visual highlights were brilliantly executed with great attention to detail(just look at the fucking background, looks like they were fucking freshly painted...frankly, i'm impressed by the amount of effort they put in for this shit alone...damn...)...plot wise, it's...intriguing(fuck, i'm at a loss for words here so...-_-)...plus a hint of hilarity that all boils down to a "weird" yet very VERY entertaining series...
edit: wtf, was that a missile earlier...
edit2: and fuck gg for not subbing this no more...they're gonna regret it some day...
edit3: oh yeah...engrish lulz
edit4(last, i promise): phrase from the op - "the abuse of greatness is when it disjoins remorse from power"(the same line seems to be imprinted on the back of 'prince's cellphone), anyone care to elaborate the thematic connection here?

Imo, I doubt that it has any sort of connection with the whole theme. It may have been solely referring to the organization's views and objectives; something that's "outside" of Eden. (perhaps?) In any case, it's just too fucking early to tell...
for now, just lose yourselves listening to its full OP song.
and lastly, I believe "Lunar" picked this one up for subbing. They already have released their own version of ep1 though I haven't actually seen it yet. Based from the very few previous project of theirs which I saw, I'd say that they're a so-so sub-group; I don't really like them.
@hermitVI: Lunar is a high-quality sub group, and I think their subs are slightly higher in quality than those of Eclipse, who's known for high-quality subs with very fast release time. As for their projects, they have a lot in their name, over 30 series to name at least: http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=group&gid=158
Their subbed episode is up for torrent, I've seen it.
As for the episode, there isn't much I can complain about at all. I loved every single aspect of it, the music, animation, visuals, voice-acting, character development/interaction, exposition, etc. Totally looking forward to this series.
I'm backlogged on anime so it took me a bit longer to get around to watching this one. The premise is very interesting, and I was pleasantly surprised that Akira didn't act like the usual "Who am I? Where am I? What is this?" amnesiacs. It was fairly humorous and had actual English in it. On my must-watch list for sure (along with several others, damn this season is good!).
One thing I wonder is if Akira has something resembling psychic ability. Not getting arrested when whipping your cock out, and convincing some random stranger to give up his pants in the middle of the street both stretch plausibility a bit, without some form of influence. Or maybe he's just too darned personable, who knows?

Yeah, I was wondering how he managed that as well. He probably doesn't know he has such persuasion as he didn't use it on the two cops in the beginning.
I found it pretty damn racist, mostly everyone is fat or an ass, and what the hell's up with "Brenda" makes stereotypical assumptions? I stopped watching after the first episode.
I have the fear that this might be another lame America is behind every evil anime, but so far it is simply amazing (what police officer asks to see your penis though, and asks if your Japanese before the question?)
Meh, this anime is pretty damn disappointing to me. I was looking forward to it from the previews, but this is boring. It's just a fairly decent male character and a completely boring and bland female character going on boring dates for 15 minutes with about 5 minutes of actual interesting stuff.
Akira shooting down missiles with his phone later on will be the highlight of the show, but not worth the crap so far. If they deal with all the other players of the game the way they dealt with this detective guy, then I won't miss much by dropping it if ep 4 is still boring. Lucky he sent the message to the wrong person and his wife just happened to be a psycho hey, that was freakin lazy way to get rid of him.
I might watch it if they get out of America and go make fun of some other country. Seriously, what do they think we do over here? We're not Nazis checking for some circumcision; some kid will never come to America because of this.
