I miss Volg Zangief ... I hope he come stronger back as World opponent..
I do like Volg myself. However, the fact that he's just another foreign boxer from Russia who lost twice in a row is already quite a big deal in a "business" standpoint. It's not like he can afford to stay in Japan without anyone funding/sponsoring him. I would also like to see him again but I doubt it'll happen in the ring. And yes, I hated how he had lost due to a homecooked decision and that fucking referee's stupidity!!! I have always hated that blind ref from the very start!
To be honest, I dislike the seasonal trend (cutoff) particularly for a series such as this where the manga counterpart is so much ahead in the story. I was expecting 52 (or at least 26) episodes more, similar to its first series’ 76 episode run.
Good to know that a sequel to "New Challenger" is already being talked about, as mentioned by Takamura’s seiyuu
Rikiya Koyama, in his blog almost a month ago.

As for the finale, despite hanging (for a continuation) obviously, it was an insightful episode on Ippo’s career perspective as a boxer, moving forward as “the” Challenger, rather than of just having a champion’s mindset of defending his (not all that meaningful) belt. God, when will I ever get to see those two (Miyata and Ippo) square off, in an official bout? (and I was so looking forward to that in this new series...)
On a side note, I guess with only 4 appearances making up for a couple of episodes worth of dialogue, Kumi’s seiyuu didn’t really matter. But even so, I would have still preferred to hear Sanae Kobayashi's voice acting on those few moments. :(
