Actually its the other way around, anime helped reinforce my hikikomori lifestyle.

Because of anime it has inspired me to learn Japanese. I'm currently taking classes at my school and also, because of anime, my cousin fluently learned how to speak Japanese and she taught English in Japan through a studying abroad program until the earthquake.

In the real world, giant robot pilots have a tendency to die because we don't have plot armor. I don't like dying.

I've never experienced this. I thought the feeling most people get after watching anime would be " Why can't my life be like this?!".It mostly applies to me when watching comedy style anime.
