is the anime really going to be canceled after episode 203 the end of the byakuran arc? or is it going on a short break to let the manga get further along? i tried finding the answer on anime news network but couldn't find it so i thought of asking here.

As far as KHR's popularity is going, I doubt they'll cut them out of the airing so easily. I would think that they're giving the manga some time to flow along, I mean, once the Byakuran Arc is over, one new episode would most likely cover 3-5 chapters of the manga. Last time I checked, the new arc has only been like 20+ chapters in.
