-Holy Shounen Trinity- Art showdown

This is a pretty hard question KLoWn. I feel that all these three series have amazing art. Also it's always depending on where they are you know?

One Piece's Sky Islands arc had amazing art. The Scenery and characters had very nice drawings.

Bleach's characters are so well drawn in my opinion. Especially their Zanpaktous and the Espadas. (released form as well.) I think a lot of thought went into their creation and that it shouldn't go unnoticed.

As for Naruto I have to say that there was a time where I found the art amazing. Lately not so much. Still the background's sometimes or even the battles between Gaara and Naruto (in their one tail and nine tails fight) was pretty sick.

Overall I'd have to go with One Piece. I might be wrong but it's the longest standing series and with so many different characters (scarcely reused except for the main crew) and so many weapons and abilities... The variety and depth of it just makes me think the art is slightly better. In one piece you rarely see the same scenery again and it's always amazing.

Bleach is a close second.

but my final choice goes to Bleach, they put alot of work into the character/sword design.
One Piece has great details in background/places, while Naruto has a bit of both.

[size=10]Pretty hard question indeed but here's my view:
Looking at the images posted in the spoilers I'd go with one piece being the best, Naruto second best and Bleach third. Assuming that Bleach's art style remains the same way throughout the manga that it is in the third image I'd say it's least best. To me, it looks a lot less detailed than the image of Naruto and One piece you posted. And well, for me.. Naruto and One Piece's art come close (with the manga) but the one piece image looks best. However, when it comes to the series I like best, (casting the art style aside), Naruto would be my favorite, Bleach second favorite and One Piece my third favorite*.

The Bleach image isn't so bad though, it just looks as if it'd require the least effort.[/h]

For me it's:

1. Naruto
2. One Piece
3. Bleach

Naruto takes it for me since im very fond of Kishimoto's designs (especially Akatsuki's) and art style, also his backgrounds are usually pretty detailed compared to alot of shounens, and the estetic design of the Rain & Cloud villages are fuckin wicked imo.

Second is One Piece, Oda is a master at drawing diffrent settings for the Strawhat's journey, and although most of it is win there's some shit in there too (imo ofc).

The character designs is pretty much 50-50, i always appreciate something unique, but sometimes the designs are just so goddamn fail that i have to do sum serious facepalming...
Alot of badass shit in there too though.


Bleach is third (obviously), mostly cuz of the lack of backgrounds, and Kubo himself has said that he doesn't really give a shit about backgrounds and tries to put focus on his characters instead, and as far as character designs and art goes it's really good, he's probably the best among the three when it comes to drawing bones and muscles.

But, as said, the lack of backgrounds, and the fact that pretty much every fight takes place in a empty desert or a plain hallway, really fucks with the overall experience.

Yeah the Bleach sample-pics looks kinda plain compared to Naruto and OP's, but i didn't pick 'em, Bleach-Tards did :P

In order of preference (in terms of the art):
3rd- One piece - Not very fond of it
2nd- Bleach - I find it to be very attractive, but it doesn't surpass...
1st- Naruto - The character design is stunning and the backgrounds are pretty sweet too.

I do not follow any of these 3 mangas so I believe my judgement isn't very meaningful.

Only read Bleach to 150 ish, and based on what I've seen, its got the most consistent art while the character art and environment seems to be pretty nice. Naruto would take the spot for first place, but lately the art seems like complete shit. A lot of unshaded artwork, and just a lot of lazy artist syndrome. Especially one of the latests color pages:

One Piece's art is quite original, and I've got nothing against originality, but people tend to be mainstream because the mainstream has been tested and tried. I just don't like the art of One Piece. (Although it is my favorite out of the 3 for story)

Just want to say this, Tite Kubo isn't a shounen manga writer, he is a artwork creator. Most of his pictures are made to be stuck on walls or something unlike Kishimoto and Oda those two know their shit

Best Art

I'm gonna have to hand this over to One Piece. It's art is purely amazing with incredible detailed backgrounds, and more than sufficient character detail. Along with ever changing environments instead of just generic ones. Even when an environment is repeated (the sea) it is changed like with snowfall or even changing it to clouds.



Bleach should be given an honorable mention though for it's character art is beyond amazing.


Character Design

I'll have to say that Bleach takes the cake. As stated by other users Kubo takes all his effort into designing characters. You can see it in his works where there is no background yet the character is massively detailed. Like all three Bleach takes the shooting fish in a barrel approach where you just create as many characters a possible and hope people like them. Still though I would say when Bleach's characters are developed it is usually quite detailed.



One piece should get an honorable mention for the fact that Luffy alone is incredibly well designed. Look at his fight scenes they have some of the most interesting artistic depictions of a character.


Overall Style

I'll have to hand this one off to One Piece; for the sole reason that it's art flows the best with the situation. When reading One Piece the story and the art almost always work hand in hand with each other. Providing you with knowledge on the situation not only told but also artistically depicted. Combined with an incredible variety of locations makes it's style purely astonishing.

Bleach will allow you to understand the characters, but leave the area around you a mystery for you to fill in yourself. With all of the focus on what each character is doing giving you no observation on anything else.
Naruto on the other hand does give you knowledge of what is going on, but the areas are all similar, with only a few occasions where the area around an important scene isn't just in another generic location.

One Piece with not only well designed characters, but also amazing backgrounds that look more like landscape paintings then manga backgrounds.

So for me it's One piece, Bleach then Naruto

I would go with One Piece for art. It has been consistent in it's art. A lot of the time I noticed that in Naruto, the art is not that great when the setting is outside of the villages. Bleach's art is just pretty bland to me. One Piece also has some of the best character design to me. The characters are all unique, and I have never seen two characters that look a like. Each character has it's own facial features, hair and all that jazz.
