I think the reason that many disliked or dislikes it, is because the story has been simplified to target an younger audience, And sure it's not perfect, but the old series did also have some flaws (Gon meeting Leorio first). but i'm really thrilled that the series is gaining new life.
Btw. in 2011 i couldn't stand the remake, heh now i find it quite enjoyable.
